Maya seems to screw up the naming of the character sets of a referenced model so that when you export a clip from one shot to the next it doesn't work unless you open the .ma clip file in a text editor and change the character set elements' names.

eg:

character set : "char1"

character set name for ref: "scene1_char1"

exported clip name for char set element: "scene_1_right_hand_scene1_R_pinky1_rotateY"

Anyone know why - or of an easier way of doing this.

Also - DKanim - a great way of getting anim from one scene to the next doesn't seem to work with character sets.

Did you make a new project?...

Is the scene file called scene 1?

sorry, to clarify - "scene1" is the name of the file that is being referenced. It is the file that contains the character model with the character set named "char1"

Maya seems to confuse the scene name with the character set name, when exporting/creating the clip.

The very fact that you can't avoid reference objects being renamed is ridiculous and causes various other problems - but don't get me started on that...
