Sounds like you're using an outdated plugin. The new plugin doesn't even require a camera tag (although you still need one for practical purposes).
With the old plugin, you still had to select the tagged camera in the plugin dialogue. It was a bit buggy, too, so on occasion if you did it wrong once, it wouldn't allow you to correct the error. Try starting with a fresh scene.
where can i get the newest version of cinemaxwell?

I guess you'll have to wait for NL to port it to the demo, if they haven't already.

Its actually much simpler than that to get the updated plugin.
go:
www.maxwellrender.com
click on "products'
then "Demo + Plugins"
You need to fill out the form to get to the demo + plugins download area.
As far as I remember the new plugin was posted there.

for each mxm you have to set a c4d material with the correct uvw mapping...
otherwise you get an error.
the mxm needs a mapping coordinate- this is given through an extra c4d material. just use a simpel default one- quite easy...
hope this helps,
cheers,
stefan
