Hi all! I'm kinda new to this, so I hope it works, right now I am almost done with the model, It just needs a lot of tweaking. (and im getting kinda burnt out on it) so I hope i can get some good critics to help me isolate problem areas . . .

Uhm . . yea, i created the model with 3ds max 3.1, and photoshop 5. Dual Intel celeron 500., 386 megs of ram (hehe, kinda behind the times for the professional setup, lol, but its all i have) :hmm: (i really wish i could use that cool global illumination stuff, but its way out of my reach, processing wise, everything i guess you can say is old school ways of getting things done, cuz i heard max5 lighting, rendering, and everything else are way better)

anywho . . .The creation method i use is surpolnurms . . aka : surface tools, to polys, to nurms . . . and I had to use reference models for assistance (putting down the lines and all :) and then just went at it . . . its not the best model by a long shot, and the close ups are horrible compared to today's peps. hehe, but i want to learn. . . if possible, is there any good tutorials on how to use bump mapping more effectively, so far i had to take alot of time to model wrinkles, (like on the arms, and such) and i wondered if there is an easier way. Also the skin is a pain, its tough to make look right (for any light) but if there is a tutorial i would love to read :)

anywho, let me know what you think . . im sure im gonna get slammed, but thanks for your time in looking

I think that the image you posted is too small and its hard too see the details. Still it looks very good. You could put in some closeups or something.

cheers

ya, i dont know, it says the file limit is 20000, which is really small . . i guess i got to get used to the file size . . render for that or something . . . .

I like the design but is there any way for you to get bigger pictures up with more detail. Right now the only crit I have is that it is just a little to skinny for its hight.

Dangdangdang wish we could see that thing better-- I like that outfit!! And the textures seem pretty spiffy too.

I'm not sure I'm entirely clear on your methods, btw... is it polys with meshsmooth or something, is that what you mean by NURMS, or am I totally off base?

The head looks like it could use some work, but dangit those pics are so teeny... and I can't tell anything about the wireframe except that it looks a little dense.

Ya, i gotta learn to get better pics, size vs quality, I also calibrated my monitors to try to see what you guys were seeing, a new set of pics are on their way. Thank you for the input.

ok I'm going to be a book jerky but..............
1 Drizzt wouldn't have an armour like this coz it's way to restraining in terms of movement, the weight is ok coz it's proboblly mithril, but still, Drizzt's clothes were lighter.
2 ------------------------------------------------------------------- deleted :p
3 Drizzt's eyes were lavender not purpule, and you should spend a lot of time working on them coz their the core of thisa character.
4 Drizzt would never weld leg armour with Loth's symbol unless it's the time when he was still in Menzoberanzan.
5 He's a bit to skinny, even for an elf.
6 Where did he lost his precious drow swords? :p
7 Is this a polymodel with meshsmooth?

But in genereal I'm glad that someone'a finally trying to make Drizzt Do'Urden  And it's not a bad star at all.... good luck.

yea, its back to tweaking

i kinda had the plan to do something while he was really young, in menzoberranzan . . . this way i can work on some cool interiors. . . for the face and body, i take it i should thickin him up some more . ..

get some jewelry on him. and probably clean up the "Dirt" on his armor and such.

(placing him closer in the range of academy/ close to graduation)

a skit i would animate him would be preety fun . . .i have him talking to his mother and fighting his father . .. (heh, i have them in WIP but just started) . . .
but uhm . . .more to show, yup! I use editable poly and mesh smooth.

but i start out with surface tools or max3 nurbs (which everyone complains about ;) heheh . . .

the thing i always had problems with was connection, and such. . .so i just end up with polys and connect the verts, and then mesh smooth. (resulting in a dense mesh) but ah well, the render time is like 6-7 mins per frame on the character right now.

thanks everyone, i'll be getting some new ones soon (maybe a face animation ) :)
