View Full Version : MotionBuilder question; Problem when animating a character on a logo

In MotionBuilder I have a boned figure standing on a logo. With this I want to create an animation of my figure standing on that logo floating through the air as a surfer.
I though I could make that work with Parent/Child Constraints so before I began to work with my character I created two test files which would give the control I wanted to have.

- In the First test-file;
I had three cubes symbolising my scene (two cubes next to each other -as the the feet- and one long cube beneath that - as the logo- ). In this I had constrained the logo to my feet and both my feet to each other; so when I turned one of my feet the logo and the other foot would follow.
(In total I used three Parent/Child Constraints; 1 - Constrained object: Logo, Source: LeftFoot / 2 - The same but then the RightFoot / 3 - Constrained object: LeftFoot, Source: RightFoot)

- In the Second test-file;
I had the same three cubes again but in this one I let the logo be in charge. So when you rotated or transformed the logo, the feet both would follow. (In this I used two Parent/Child Constraints; 1 - Constrained object: LeftFoot, Source: Logo / 2 - Constrained object: RightFoot, Source: Logo).

The second option was the one I preferred most so I decided to use that one on my scene.

But then I ran into a problem - it didn't work... I used the same construction from the second test (Two Parent/Child Contraints; 1 - Constrained object: LeftFoot, Source: Logo / 2 - Constrained object: RightFoot, Source: Logo)
Some kind of over-ruling system happened, so when I rotated or transformed the logo only one foot would follow.

I also tried my first set-up (Three Parent/Child Constraints; 1 - Constrained object: Logo, Source: LeftFoot / 2 - The same but then the RightFoot / 3 - Constrained object: LeftFoot, Source: RightFoot) but almost the same problem occured; the logo only followed one foot and both feet wouldn't connect with each other.

Well, my question is; Does someone have an idear how to solve this? Am I on the right track but am I doing something wrong? Do you have to use Constraints, or am I wrong and do I need to use something else?
There's one important factor though - I animate in MotionBuilder, but I light and render in Cinema4D; so I need to be able to take it all back to Cinema4D.

Hope someone can help me out with this, I've been trying things for a couple of day's now but I lost track of other options a bit...

Thanks in advance,

Selene :)
