hello.
this is submission #1, initial thumbnails that will help me define composition onto later stages. for the time being, each of those thumbs presents a viable solution from which a sci fi vista can develop, but still, i am not quite sure if that sort of illustration captures the essence of EON and helps distinguish it from other sci fi epics . i think i will be spending the next few days modelling mock-up resources(machinery, terrain etc.) and thinking a bit about how i want the image to evolve.since it is a 'movie poster' type of illustration, considerations about graphic design should also be made at this stage

still working on the concept od the final imagery. these versions imply a colour pallette. the vertical version of a suspended chunk of rock amongst a canyon of dark machinery is my fave so far-it is also the one i consider to have the potential of becoming something different than the usual syd mead/chris foss-styled visual solutions of the brief

thanx for visiting the thread:)
still haven't made up my mind as far as the technology and the image theme is concerned, so i am working on more thumbs so as to decide on mood and composition

for some reason, i had double-posted the previous images, so until the next milestone suybmission,i will be using extrnal linking:

hello again.
crucial part of the process, i figured out topology and physics of the stone. the chambers make sense, considering them as massive o'neil tubes. they could even include canyons, and the grvitational centrifugal effect could help support massive chunks of matter...
i strongly lean towards a more 'tribalist' aewsthetic atm

work on some mock-up models, mainly the 'city' object that will be the main focus of the illustration

http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/810/patternedframesxt0.jpg (http://imageshack.us/)

some paatterned graphics i created starting from simple shapes...they could prove useful as texture for the machinery. i am 'officially' on holiday, so i think i can catch up w the rest of the entries..

not quite concept and not the full 'line art' stage either, this is the 'mechanical canyon' element that will be used in the final image( with a lot of tweaking, still)

this is photomanipulation, using a picture of a motorcycle and a trashcan+some rendered 'pseudo models'(sic) .i will post more later(modeled stuff screenshots and photomanipulation elements), coz the method i will be using frm now on is rather complicated...

hello once more. somehow, the previous pre-viz stuff dodn't quite feel right. back w more concepts:

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/1205/concept1iu4.jpg (http://imageshack.us/)

http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/3717/concept2tl3.jpg (http://imageshack.us/)

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/2522/concept3fm4.jpg (http://imageshack.us/)

this last image will be the basis for the linework stage, but not just yet:
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/8810/concept5ef7.jpg (http://imageshack.us/)

i am printing this and going to my local photocopying shop for few enlargements, a4> a1. i am satisfied w the dynamic composition on tat one

cobination of linework, PS retouching over watercolour loose brushwork and addition of details...now starts the hard part of bringing this all together

adding some base colour and more photo-overlaying that yields some interesting random details and texture.next stage will be flattening the image and proceeding with 'true' painting.

i also changed trhe orientation, the tilted horizon creates a sense of levitation

I love the color variety in the most recent post. That's one of the things I'm trying to work on in 3d: getting into more of that illustrative look that good paintings often have. It just seems like my 3d work often ends up looking dull where as paintings always come out so vibrant. Anyway, keep up the good work, I'll be anxiously awaiting more progress.

hi. i had spent most of the time detailing and regulating the ambience. these are some details. i think it looks good enough (?) atm, but i may change my mind and tighten up loose bits here and there in the time remaining

Hey Crankbot this is looking very cool! your loose brush technique really gives it great style, I would Tighten it up just a little all around and maybe throw in a bit more blue here and there to break up that orange, and then call it finished!
Awesome job so far, good luck!

Despite the lack of details, I vote for your work as being one of my favorites by a lot of point of view: angle, perspective, design chromatics and atmospherics (especially that). Plus the drawing style which is very expressive! Good luck! Waiting to see your final image!
