After the recent alien attack over Fermilab (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43624), the military has called in a specialist: Capt. John "Suicide" Seto, and his prototype Scimitar Mk. II air-to-space fighter.
Of course, this was supposed to be hush-hush, but "Suicide" showed up in his trademark fashion.

Those alien interlopers over Fermilab better watch out.
This was done in two days instead of one, but included throwing together the fighter design to sufficient detail to stand up in a shot like this. This shot is based on the same approach as the first one, wideangle, hi-res still image panned around in LW. Background, fighter and particles rendered in LightWave 7.5, then comped together in AfterEffects. The heat distortions and shadow were done in AE, along with grain etc.
