Nice, looks really good so far.

Couple things, the front end should have a slighter curve in it. Also on the wheels the spokes, 5 of them should be a little fatter and the others skinner.

That was when I was still a certified BMW technician, and they had just came out.

Very good work there. Details are really awesome.

Only two things I`m not sure about is
1. I think that wheel rim looks a little bit different.

2. I dont know, if a M5 has a clear optics lights. Maybe in US it does. But also, I think, that it looks different.

I know, It is still W.I.P, just to let you know.

Yes, the M5 has clear LED-type rear lights from 2001 ->. It also has the bi-xenon front lights with "angel-eyes". The lights in front and rear are the same on all 5-series (E39 body), no matter if they are on a 520i or a M5. It was facelifted on the MY2001 though. The M5 posted by Nosalis is a MY2000 if I'm not mistaken.

The rims in the rear should be a bit wider than the front rims. Front rims are 8,5"x18" with 235/45-18 and the rear are 10"x18" with 275/35-18. Looking at your model I'd say that you should narrow the front rims a bit.

Excellent modelling dude! :applause:

Nosalis

It seems that youre certain of what you are talking. So you`re probbably right. I like the MY2000 version better, but, you`re right. I`ll try to find out more about MY2001 M5.
I thought, that M5 is different form BMW 5 sedan, so it can have different lights. But if you are sure, I cannot say it is not like that. You probbably know it better than me.

As the Rims. It seems a little bit tight for me, than you have. I didn`t mean that you have wider rims. ( But it looks that you have same rims on front and rear wheels) :))

Anyway, ... you are a very good modeler. I just voice my oppinion

However, looking at the real picture of the car, I noticed that the area between the taillight and the license plate should be wider on both sides...

His model is not exactly the one, as on the picuter, I was told.
On the net pictures is model year 2000 while Acidboy makes my2001. So Maybe, there could be a difference, ... but not big.'

Anyway, this is one of the best models I`ve ever seen. Great work there on modeling.

What method have you used ? Do you have some kind of tutorial ?

meshwolf
05-15-2003, 02:28 PM
Excellent picture of the MY2001 M5 there. To model the lights I would take a long hard look at how they really are built. As I said all E39 of the same MY no matter if it's a M5 or a 520 have identical lights, so just take a stroll to your local BMW-dealer and look at a car there.

I'd do the lights with some thickness by doing an outer and an inner piece. The inner one with bumps and the outer smooth. I would also model the reflector for the turnsignal and lower part of the rearlight to add som depth to them. The middle part however doesn't have any real depth as it's only LED's.

Most often they have a 525iM (or some E39 with M-kit) which also has the M aerodynamic package (front and rear and sideskirts from the M, bootlid wing, M chassis and sport seats). Most people won't be able to tell the difference between that and a real M5. What the real M5 has that the M-equipped cars doesn't is oval sideview mirrors and oval rearview mirror, dual exhaust and some minor interior details.

lol...........don't forget they also have the M62TU motor, Dual Vanos.

They also only come in a 6speed.......they do have the proximity sensors, which might have changed but the E39 (525, 535, 540)did not come with these standard front and rear, also M kits would not add those for the none M's. Also they have auto tire pressure monitoring. Also the standard IE, rain sensor.
Yeah, the mirrors fold up too.
Some of which you already mentioned, also other things I have forgot, considering I was a BMW certified technician almost 3.5 years ago. These, the X5 and Z8 where new right before I left.:)

Boxcrash -> You know your BMW's, no doubt about that. I'll give you a call when my M62 is acting weird. ;)

I just noticed when looking at the bonnet that it's way too flat. When I modeled a 5-series I spent half the time getting the bonnet right. It bulges in every direction. I could attach a photo of my car where that is painfully obvious, if needed.

I also agree about that grille looking a tad small, and also a bit flat in the ribs. There should be 10 ribs, and they are slightly curved at the top and bottom.

Keep going! I want to see this model finished and stunning!

I made the bottom, that will be usefull for later back shots... its not original, i made it from my head but it will do. Also made some hdri test, its only to see how does the car paint look...

Looking good. :) :buttrock:

I still think the tailights have a little too much noise in them, they look a little too much like TV noise, maybe just me....but thats what me thinks.:)

By Finish you mean putting on some hamman parts right? RIGHT?!?!?!?

flamedevil
05-31-2003, 10:13 AM
That looks good, i agree with boxcrash about the taillight, reduce a bit the noise, add some bump and make it more refractive and reflective.

Good luck !

AcidBoyXL
06-04-2003, 06:19 PM
i think its becouse that you have white background, try 2 put some hdri in environment :arteest: then copy it with instace too materiall editor and set spherical environment too the map...then put on some plane on the ground (in brazil CSG Server or create it your self) and mayby try to play with IOR... i think that should do..

as a big bmw fan to another, let me tell you that the car looks great so far!

how did u do the interior? i mean, how did u make it fit exactly inside the car? did u clone some of the exterior elements then scaled them down and moved them inwards or sth like that?

keep up the great work!

yeah something like that :p .. I extrude the border and then select tat new polys and detach them 2 new object..
can you show me what setting are you using for the glass?
thats brazli glass, IOR of reflection is 1,6, refraction is 1,5, spec. level 90, glossiness 60 with fallof map. :arteest:
when we can se the front seats??

How did you setup car paint material? I allways have problem with reflection. I cannot setup how much shoud it reflect. The way it reflects in standert is too much. Do you have some advice ?

thanks

AcidBoyXL
07-07-2003, 08:09 AM
if setting up the IOR is not satisfying, try to mess with flakes, it could give you some nice effect. first set the size of flakes, then amout, spread... you can also change the falloff in diffuse setting. Im no pro in materials but maybe could help.

I think, that rims are too much reflective. And reflection is sharp, it should be more glossy. Rest is ok.

Looking fwd to another car from you

AcidBoyXL
07-08-2003, 10:35 AM
yeah, the reflection is glossy but in my version of brazil is a bug.. sometimes the glossy reflection dosint work, somtimes it does dont know why.. in some earlyer posts.. thx for feedback ;) cheers

Cool, I even see the nav screen.:)
Yeah the M5 does have the MFL(multi-function) 3 spoke steering wheel, they put it in some of the E46 328 ci, probably now the 330 ci(I think it is CI(Coupe Injected) for the coupe and IC(Injected Cabrio) for the cabrio/convertibles, been over 3 years, so I forget stuff. :) )
