View Full Version : Sand Effect
I have a beach scene, rendered in 3D, i want some sand particle effects to be composited in the scene(particularly, when a chracter walks in the sand), the camera pans slightly, i also have static shots, can someone guide me as how to go about the above task?
thanks

Just do it?
Read the manual, then do it?
The particle effects in AE are pretty sad, so I'd suggest either looking for a plugin, doing the sand in the 3D application of your choice, or doing something quite original in the 2,5 dimensions AE gives you.
if i could just do it ...i wouldnt have posted here, i just think that some one might have already come across this problem and can give me some guidelines as how to go about it
the manual doesnt say any where to make sand....??

Shoot some foot step hits on a bluescreen or floor/wall. Composite real elements.

Well, if you want to use AE, i'm sure there's someone here that could help you. But, if you know any 3d program at all, I'd really, really recomend using it. Much more control... I've never seen particles look as good from AE.

Maybe you could give Particular from Trapcode a try. I've been working with it for a couple of days now, with some pretty nice results.

I think that this is the forth or fifth time someone has requested dust, sand, smoke or particles of that nature. But hey - I don't mind re-posting links.
Albeit AfterEffects may not be the best solution for smoke/dust VFX - but if it's what you have to work with these links might help you...

Play with the settings and see what you can come up with. Pre-comp and time-remapping are your friends here...

Apart from using particular which is a great plug, I will second the suggestion to use real elements when possible.
Although you haven't specified the exact effect you are looking for with sand, so we could give more specific replies, you can easily set up a scene with footsteps in sand, blowing sand (in a black/blue bg, using a fan, on a table etc) or you can also use salt, it work out well some times.
