I was wondering if anyone knew how to create such an effect like this one:

some of you MIGHT have seen it  . i'm going to be exporting it to combustion later on. basically i'm just looking for the "chrome" appearence to it. i remember seeing a tut for using an hdri(?) image for raytracing.. as an environment map.. should i take snaps of a room and use that as an environment map for the reflections? help is utmost appreciated (when isn't it ever:p )..

Zzzzz..:D

*EDIT* I'm not really lookin' to go into that much detail with it sloppin from one finger to the other and the fingernail indentions.. however if someone knows how and is willing then by all means :wavey:

BASICALLY i'm looking to make that thick gooey chrome material that can be 'draped' over other objects.

Be sure you think of the mesh and the material seperatly.

The material in this case is highly reflective (it's from that movie right?.. oh what was its name..Episode 2? ), ie. making it work is not about the material itself, but about the environment you make for it.

To me it sounds like the classic-ish "how to make gold", or "how to make chrome" questions. It's actually pretty tricky to answer, because the materials themselves are deceptivly simple.

My best answer would be that you first just model the mesh. Make something that drapes and drips the way you want, using liquid simulation, cloth-sim, morphing, manual keyframing, wahtever gets the job done. Focus on the movement first, and just know that once you apply a reflective material to it, it will look like you want it.
