I was fortunate enough to meet him about 10 or 11 years ago. We didn't have much time to chat, but he was gracious enought to answer a few questions from an obviously awestruck young animator who was just getting into the buisness. Among other things, we got to talking about Tom and Jerry, and how he storyboarded every one until the day MGM suddenly and without warning shut their animation unit down. But instead of getting down, he and Bill Hanna sunk all they had and more into their own studio. They had to re-invent themselves and their work(limited animation) in order to meet the tight budgets of TV as opposed to the huge budgets of the Tom and Jerry shorts. But they pulled it off after a few tight years. I'll never forget that conversation.

Hanna-Barbera made some long-lasting shows, created iconic characters, and made a huge impact on the history of animation. Mr. Barbera will be missed, but at least he has a wide breadth of work that he has left behind for people to enjoy.
I'm reading right now about his life story, and it shows the man worked damn hard to be where he was!
