At least that's the term I've come to know it by. It's when you take the sharp edges off an otherwise boxy, unrealistic model.

I've racked my brains trying to come up with a good way of doing it, but I'm at a loss. I've tried useing the "classic" meshsmooth and adsjusting the strength so it just effects the edges, but it creates too many polys. I've tried going to edit mesh, and using the chamfer command, but I doesn't work right half the time.

I was hoping someone here could fill me in on something I might be missing. Is there some kind of trick to doing it well and consistently throughout the model? Thanks.

Using Max5 BTW

ive had no issues with using chamfer on my edges. i usually convert my meshes to a poly though. i dont like using edit mesh's. try the poly, might be better. and as with the actual chamfering, if you have edges you want to chamfer, leave them and do as many at the same time. saves joining then up later if you have to.

There is a BIG discussion on this subject towards the end of the "Theoretical Sub-d" sticky thread at the top of this forum.

If you are using max 5, use the chamfer dialog instead of clicking and dragging. That way you can set the amount instead of dragging.

But really the answer to this question is addresed in that thread, and it's a bit more complex than I care to try to explin in a single post without images.

Have a look, you might find what you are looking for.
