Hi folks,

Is there a way to get rid of the noicon_pic clips? I have 5 of them in my scene and I can't delete them.
Does anyone know why it happens? Sometimes I have multiple copies of the other clips as well. I´m wondering if it's related to importing objects using dotxsi, since the material libraries are imported as well resulting in multiple copies of the same material.
How do you guys import objects from other scenes? I'm using doxsi 5.0 with "export selection only" selected, but maybe there are better options to avoid kind of problem.

Thanks in advance,

Felipe

To delete them, can you open explorer, o, find the noicon clips and delete them there?

if you still can't delete them from the explorer in sources/clips mode, try to make them "loaded in memory" if they aren't, and then rename them. This usually unlocks "system clips"

hey thanks guys, I uploaded an image to try make myself clear enough

Dwigfor,

XSI does not allow me to delete those clips, I have tried in explorer, material editor, etc...It does nothing, not even give me an error or message.

Jaco,

Sorry for the noob question, but what do you mean with "loaded in memory". How can I do this?

Ok, now I manage how to delete them. I edited the clip properties and made them point to a different file (any random image), and then XSI allowed me to delete them.

My second question is still valid though. How do you export/import an object from one scene to another? dotxsi? merge the 2 scenes?

Thanks again,
Felipe

File....Export....Model

Thanks Ciaran,

After some tests, I agree that the best way to import/export objects between scenes is using import/export -> model.
I was using dotxsi since I didn't want to remove the object from the hierarchy model and delete the model each time.
What I didn't know is that dotxsi import all the materials from the original scene, no matter whether it's used or not, causing a duplication of my material libraries and clips. For instance, if you have a "defaultlib" in both scenes, it will create a "defaultlib1" with the same materials duplicated when the object is imported.

Cheers,
Felipe

What if you used obj? I exported/imported a couple of my objects to get rid of the large file size bug and that seemed to work good...

with .obj you will lose a couple of things:

- Texture projections/supports
- edge weighting
- history
- multiple UVs ?(not sure about this one)
- geometry aprox settings

I don't know how well it imports the materials as well.

If you want to import only the mesh it is a valid option though

Thanks,
Felipe

Go to External Files manager and make each noicon point to C:\Softimage\XSI_5.11\Application\rsrc\noIcon.pic or under project if you please so. Then just Delete Unused Materials, and Unused Sources/Clips again if you please so.

If you check Copy External Files under Save as also noIcon.pic gets copied and leads on the long road where you are now.
