A close-up of the head :)

Edit: This is a new render of the head and of the body, the lighting has improved I hope and I've added a simple background. Feb 2007.

Thank you for your comments!

brentagain, the butler is not supposed to be very friendly, I quite like his expression as well, the way he looks down at you. I'm thinking that he is not trustworthy.

I plan on making some more characters and objects to go along with this style. I'm thinking along the lines of "Who dunnit" and "Cluedo". But I might have to make some other stuff first.

And I'm glad my custom brushes tut was useful to you! :)

monster_155, the references I used was only images of butler's clothing. I made a search on Google. But mainly they were just images of clothes. I also made a search for the name "Jeeves".

Other than that, I actually started playing around with a head in ZBrush and quite soon I had a head that I thought looked like a butler. I imported the head and a body into Maya and gave him some clothes. But I had decided earlier on to make some characters from the early 1900-hundreds or thereabout. So I made him look oldfashioned.

As I was working on the butler I was concerned and still am, that I might have copied him unconsciously from somewhere. I have tried to find butlers from different stories, particularly Disney, as I'm a big fan. But I haven't found any similar butlers.... :)

I'll post some wires, probably tomorrow.

Luks, Thank you for your crits. I have used Ramp shaders, and only two lights. When you say better the illumination, you mean like light up the bottom of the legs a little more?

And for the anti-aliasing, do you mean the edges between the character and the background? It is a little jagged, I cut out the character from the original background, thank you for pointing it out to me. I have used the Lanczos filter for the rendering.

Thanks again for your crits!

Cool, I like the cartoon style. You know what, you should try to bring the face in zbrush, it would add a little more details.

MaxAlbert, thanks for your comment! I have understood that people do like to see a lot of detail and almost expect everything to be photorealistic. For this character I decided to make him in a soft cartoony style, maybe I haven't succeeded at all in that. :)

I did some renders with bump maps, but decide to go without them. However I might make another version of this character with "real skin" (SSS-shader), "real hair" and different shaders for the clothing.

I'd still like comments on the character for future work. I might make a series of characters to go with the butler, so any input would be appreciated. :)
