for an animation like planes flying into clouds? or like a background for a scene?
here there's an ad on tv, a cloud character cleaning a baby's ass..(toiletpaper ad..) and it's done with max. not photorealistic but it looks like a cloud.
i'd really love to know how they do it

Howdy Jadechron !
Afterburn is what i was thinking about at first, or actually a particles system should do it with a nice proc map on it ?

hey!
Here's what I do. It's not too hard and it gives a nice effect.
The basic idea is to create a plane object that will lie on top of your current scene with its normal facing downwards. This plane's material will have a noise oppacity map which you will have to play around with the numbers to achieve a desired look. This will give you they cloud effect.
Then as a background envirnoment I choose a gradient similar to a sky. DARK blue as color #1, medium blue #2 and a lighter blue (near white) as color #3.
That's it. Play around with the angle of the cloud plane relative to the camera. This gives you a nice realistic cloud look.
If you have any questions ... email me. :p
