View Full Version : female ninja lowpoly character
nucstle 02-15-2003, 10:12 PM This is something I'm working on for a school assignment. I was gonna do a female samurai but as I was researching I noticed that samurai wear very baggy clothes so I went with a more ninjaesque character so I'd be able to show off her curves. I think I'm about done with character and I finished her swords, now I'm off to texture.
If you have any crits or comments feel free to let 'em fly.

I think the head is a bit too big. This is a great start, but I think you just have a slight( and I mean only a slight) error with proportion. Have another look at female bodies...and try and make her LOOK Japanese.
High heels are a no-no( how is she supposed to climb and leap through the trees? )! And the so-called "bagy-trousers" are more fitting for a female ninja than that skin-tight leather garb...
Trust me, the effort you take in gathering reference is worth it. And if this is for a school project, get top marks by making another version of her in a Kimono set-up. Being able to show different moods and scenes will go along way.
Good luck, and here is my e-mail if you need quick assisstance -

very well my friend. this looks promising... i really like her butt; ok i really like the way YOU modeled her butt.
ehmm the bone under the eyes ( sorry donīt know the term for it) are a little to dominant. i think they would give her more style if you scale them down a little.
...and yes, all men like boobs, but these two are too big IMO.
is next update a smoothed version?

I never knew that female ninjas wear "high heels"? :D
Any for a low poly model that looks great. Tell me when you finish texturing.

i don't like the way the but was modeled...looks like two cones...you could make them look more round with less polys

Very nice model, like someone already said the head is a bit too big, maybe just a bit smaller... :wip:
also is there any chance to see wireframe view with edges showing...

Thanks for the comments,
I guess maybe ninja was the wrong word to use, I was going for a more comic book charlie's angel type.
I've made the head and breasts a little smaller and the hands a little bigger. I'm not too worried at the moment about smoothing groups but I will get into that as soon as I get the textures done. I tried doing an overall smoothing group and it just didn't look good, so it's something I'm gonna have to play with.
I've also reduced the poly's on her butt.
I went ahead and added some smoothing groups to average the normals, but noticed I was getting too caught up in it. I still need to work on the textures.
Here's a wireframe.

I think you can probably reduce the poly count in her buttocks... it looks like topology suitable for breasts has been grafted on to her rear end... :P
And I concur with the highheel comment from earlier.. .but then again, video games in this day and age....
I agree.... The butt doesn't need to have poles, in fact it's a waste of polygons and it will make the smooth version look strange. Keep in mind that vertices with four edge connections always smooth better and deform better than vertices with 5,6 or more. So take a little more time planning out where your edges run, and try to continue your lines from the back all the way down the legs, and so forth. I hope that helps.

The concept art you used is a little too noticeable. the arch on her back, the set of the shoulders, the high heels, the bighead... Try to put your own spin on it. useitas reference to where stuffshould be, but dont followittoo closely.
The body is anime like in proportions, but it doesnt really fit the lifestyle of a ninja. They would be more nible looking, more light and sculpted. Granted she looks athletic, butI cant see her a sa ninja. More as a temple chick feeding grapes to a fat polititian, drweling over her juggs.
It's a good start. keep at it, and try to use the least ammopunt of polys to get the shape you need.:wavey:

Hey nusctle, I like what you're going for hear, but it's still a bit too raw.
Mainly I'm having problems with the topology of the geometry. You've got some great shape/sillouette but your geo layout is too... regular, and if that's going to go into a game, use triangles man.
You want to have 2 major things in your topology;
rhythms that reflect the curvature of the muscluture and motion of the geo as well as , lines and rythms that flow through the entire sculpture.
Now to be more specific.
The butt really doesn't need that type of geo. It looks like you took two hemispheres and stuck them on. You could get away with half the geo and more shape.
I'm also seeing no real change in the way you've organized joints versus other parts of the bosy. (ie. knees, shoulders, hips, elbows) right now they're just not going to bend well.
I'd also like to see the quads(soon to be triangles:thumbsup: ) flow in a more regular pattern. (ie. the boobs are detailed and then suddenly you have one big polygon to show the "stretch" of the fabric, you got to keep a flow) This will also help with the way light will interact with it ingame.
Right now she has more of a domonatrix feel then a ninja.
I love that you're taking it beyond normality though, keep it the work, and this could be great.

Yeh I agree about the butt. Was just looking it over the thighs look curved outwards. Looks a bit strange looks like she's been riding a horse all day or somthing. Also the thighs look kinda big for the size of the knees so that might why it looks a bit strange to me.
Otherwise looks to be coming together pretty well.
