Hi everyone,

I've just finished a small animation test with my new superhero. Just a 6 second thing.
Comments are more than welcome :)

By the way, he needs a name... any ideas? :D

Very very nice! I loved the little jog at the end. I also like the facial expression. Keep it up! I wanna see more :bounce:

great animation

as somebody who is still in the beginning stages of learning animation, I have some questions.

what program are you using to create your animations?
what do you use to rig and skin?
how long have you been doing this? (so that I can feel a little better about where I'm at right now ;) )

thank you for your time..am looking forward to any future animations.

oh, I just found this ! .. Andres you are so silent! :) hehe
it looks very very cool, the statics & the dynamics both (especially the animation). but if I were you I would make the belt bigger in vertical size.
& about the name, if you could write down some History/Background & his origin...maybe we can help.
(i don't know why, but I really don't like the color scheme, not very super heroish IMO ! but that's your kind of superhero)
cheers
Ila

Hey, nice work
Wanna now a creepy thing? He looks like a guy i know...creepy :P

DLDude, Akuma, AuC and kebabflott: Thanks!

mercutio: the whole thing is made with 3dsmax5 and skin modifier. I've been animating characters for... a year and a half I would say, but I've been doing 3D for 3 or 4 years, (always at home, never professionally). I'm self-taught, so it will be faster if you're studying 3d or animation as a subject. It won't take you that long! :)

Ila: silent? haha, let's say it was a surprise! I'll try changing the belt and see what happens. The colors may not be the final ones, since I haven't come up with a name / background story / superpowers / logo, etc. As I said, any ideas about this are more than welcome.

Hi Frinsklen!

I'm really happy to see you have another project so soon! after the living like a toon... this superhero! I really like it! you already know why! ;)

I'm agree with the others about you should decice about his habilities, superpowers, history and all of that... I've already told you my ideas wich I will not post here because if you dont use them... I would like keep them for me! :D

I think the colors and the name depend of that I've said (powers, history...), but a generic name seeing that so funny pose could be... Double-Blow !!

Great super- animation! :D

I. ABSOLUTELY. LOVE. IT.

Brilliant stuff Frinsklen. You have a gift.

Can I be picky, and ask what the spike on his right shoulder in the first pose is? Is it cloth, or just general skinning issues?

LOL, I love those poses!!!!!!!!!!:bounce: :bounce:

Frido Nahon
02-17-2003, 10:37 AM
I think the landing is a little bit "stiff". It would be nicer when he bends more in the knees. But other than that it's really great!

Keep it up!

Regards, Frido

V. nice stuff, if u have read the animators survival kit like tonnes of people mention on this board then I'm gonna get my credit card out... :applause:

Thanks everyone for replying

pabbloz: I'm thinkin', I'm thinkin'! :) name, superpowers, logo and history coming soon! (I hope...)

erilaz: Thanks! The spike you talk about is there because the whole thing is lowpoly. I didn't smooth the mesh for this one, and I think it looks good this way. I'll keep the detailed mesh for closer shots. (like the image above, where the head is actually lowpoly but the body and the hands are subdivided). The spike is actually a vertex that seems to stick out a bit too much! :)

Frido: hmm... I posted a WIP of this animation on cgchar and they told me just the opposite, and that's what I did... maybe you're right, though.

samartin: yeah, I've got that book too! :D

Frinsklin, this is so good. Even without a background story, this guy already has so much character. I really hope you create a short with this guy. Your animation skills just keep getting better and better, great job! :D

Yeah men, great animation and great toon style, congratulations!!
Do you use Character studio and physique? please tell me your work method, thanks.

nice looking stuff....timing is nice...
except he looks more like a gay super hero.
is that allowed to mention?or is it politicaly incorrect?
man....dont give me no heat now...its just what i felt ok?

Frinsklen
02-20-2003, 12:36 PM
Hi again. Thanks everyone.

Rye: Hopefully, there will be a short.... hopefully.......

ja3d: Gracias. Since I wanted a quick setup this guy was animated with character studio, but I'll use normal bones for my next animations.

uday: gay superhero?!? haha, well, that was not my intention... maybe you're right... I just wanted to make him look a bit ridiculous, but not gay! :D I'll try to fix that for future animations.

LichiMan
02-23-2003, 12:28 PM
Hey Frinsklen!

That's a really cool animation.

Maybe the movement of the first pose is a little linear, I don't like the path that his hands are describing just before the first pose. But all the next is really good. Weight , timing, arcs.

I can't wait to see more. Has he got an enemy?

pabbloz
02-23-2003, 01:19 PM
LichiMan... he has not powers, logo or name,... how hell will have an enemy!? :D ;)

come on Frinsklen... make us the official presentation of your superhero :)

LichiMan
02-23-2003, 03:35 PM
hahaha! That's true!

Ok... Mmmm... he could be... BouncingMan and his powers are... Mmmmm.... are... Does he need powers?

I think that LichiMan will be the enemy because "BouncingMan" is stealing his clients... When LichiMan goes to the zone 0 where the people are in problems, "BouncingMan" already has arrived and he has solved all. :D

I'll be observing you.

Frinsklen that's an awsome anim!
Looks like the test was succesful ey? :)

Maybe he could have a slow/tired assistant trying to keep up?Then you could implement alot of interactions between the two of them?

I really hope you take the time to do a short with him sometime soon!

Cheers!

Thanks for the post, and I love your Hero-animation! Reminds me of a guy in the end of that old crappy movie Cool World with Brad Pitt, when he´s stuck in an animated world. You know which one I´m talking about?

HapZungLam
02-25-2003, 05:11 PM
gooooooddd stuff.:applause: :applause:

not much i can say, it is very good. however, i just wonder at the last part when the hero jumps off the screen is very bouncy and flowty. did you make that on purpose?

Frinsklen
02-25-2003, 05:51 PM
Thaaaaaaaaaanks everyone!

Lichiman: so LichiMan is this guy's enemy? ahm, ok... too short for him, don't you think? My hero would smash Lichiman with his eyes closed! :D

pabbioz: still thinking... BouncingMan sounds fine though... ;)

Johra: Thanks. I like the idea of that assistant trying to keep up... I'm trying to come up with a 20/30 sec story, if I don't have enough with this guy there will be assistant :)

Chris_Brand : Brad Pitt stuck in an animated world?! nope, I don't know what film you're talking about...

HapZungLam: hey, thanks. yeah, the snappy bounce at the end is done on purpose, in fact I think it was the hardest part.

Thanks jchoi.

I forgot to post this.
Low poly wireframe, as it looks on the animation. Around 8000 polygons I think.

I think that's great, mate!
I especially love the little glance to the side before he goes into the first 'hero' pose, it really makes him seem alive.
Very nice work!

hey, there's a new cgchallenge with... superheros??!? don't do this to me guys, my superhero is not original anymore! (ok, it never was actually but... you know what I mean...)

Since we're going to have lots of superheros everywhere from now on... let me remind you that I really need a name for this guy... I won't work on him any more until I got a name! yes, I beg you! :)

I will tell :) much better than pabblotoz hero btw! :D (pabbloz, I remember what you said to Neox about my lilB's in the LotR challenge! got my revenge now! :p )

Hyperactive-Man!!!
LOL!! I love that one!! Too funny!

haha, if nobody comes up with anything better, I might use that one, thanks a lot Hamsterhead.
I have to say "superfantastico" sounds great too, and so are Ila's "stinger" and "SpringMan" IMO. Hyperactive-man is winning though. :)
I also like the idea of ending the name with "-Mask" like the name dmcgrath suggested.

fellah: Thanks man! yeah, there will be a logo, I just needed the name first. Time to come up with an Hyperactive logo! :D

thanks for the replies everyone!

Are you entering this guy in the animation challenge? How long did this take to animate? Amazing work, you should be at Pixar (if you're not already!!!)

woohohow... no, not quite, haha. Faaaaaar from it. Veeeeery far.

Fasty, I'm not sure how long it took to animate, maybe 10-12 days of relaxed work. :) About the challenge, I really don't know, maybe if I come up with a nice idea I will enter this guy in the animation challenge. Maybe a villain instead, maybe both... don't know.
Anyway the superheros challenge was announced after I animated this guy... d'oh!

I'm currently designing a "hyperactive-logo" :D I'll post it here when I'm done.

:annoyed:

As you it makes to arrange the fold of the leg and the belly for the vertices of the mesh if not to mix??????

Please, it answers this doubt !!!!!

Great stuff

I like the rubbery bounciness of the animation.

One thing I noticed as 'a bit weird' though was his crutch. When his legs bend fully they do something to the hip area which looks a bit ....wel.....'weird'.

Other than that.... Very promising indeed.
