With all the articles coming out of xsibase.com about Happy Feet lately, you'd think the entire film was made in XSI, which it wasn't. They are really trying desperately to attach themselves to this film.

you should read more better before making such a statement. ALL interviews say what was done with XSI and what was not, they also mention maya and other apps. also xsibase is not softimage.
I did read the article and I know what it says (and all the others), and for the record I did work on the movie.
There has been all this hoopla about XSI's involvement in Happy Feet lately on CGtalk with a bunch of linked articles to xsibase.com. I was merely commenting on how it seems a little excessive, that's all. No need to get all angsty. And if you can't see my point then I guess it's lost on you.

You sound liek you are carrying one serious chip on your shoulder. Seeing as you are the only one to have brough it up, it would seem you are the one with the problem.
What is wrong with Softimage trying to drum up some marketing mileage out of the success of the film? It's not like Autodesk/Alias haven't milked LOTR and othr films for their own marketing gains.
A lot of people worked on this movie. No one is twisting Brets, Olivier's or anyone else's arm to give these interviews.

Njen, question about modeling pipeline for character/creatures (I know characters were maya and environment were xsi). Did you make the base meshes for penguins in polygons or nurbs?
I'm just curious about those kinds of things.
Mike

I bear no chips, and I have no problems. I was just having a little fun at a situation I saw that's all. There's no need for anyone to get all bent out of shape. Please don't take my comments out of context.
mroberts: I am sorry I can't asnwer your question about the modeling pipeline as I was doing lighting and compositing for my time there. Though somene could correct me if I am wrong, but I believe all the modeling for characters and environments were done in Maya. We certainly rendered them from Maya to Renderman using Mayaman (Animal Logic's own translator). There is one interesting little fact that is not apparent in the film as far as modeling is concerned. In the ground area around the hub (the tall ice point in the middle of the penguin area that all the action happens around), the modelers modeled in the shapes of the continents of the world in to the ground. It was a neat little easter egg for anyone down the pipeline to see :) Hehehehe.

Fair enough. I applogise for my reponse, but you did come across as having a bone to pick.
I believe Olivier said in hsi inetrview that the modelling for the environments was done in XSI. I would be surprised is any of the characters were nurbs. As far as I recall, Animal stopped using nurbs long ago (unless for specific purposes).
Anyway Njen, congrats on the lighting and compositing. I was spectacular from what I have seen.
