Spiderwick is a childrens book series written and illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. At the University of Colorado Digital Animation Center we were given the assignment in our Organic Modeling Class to produce a movie poster. I was the TD on this project and we used several new programs and it was a major learning experience developing an entire pipeline that looks good at print resolution. Our final resolution is 4800x7200 so it took a huge number of large textures and displacements to get this render. We had eleven students working part time for six weeks to produce this image.

LKooks pretty good but you need to match up the lighting a bit more and/or with some backlighting to bring the characters out more.

I would guess that the front 3 people are brothers and sister but they Look exactly the same, as in same model different hair and shirt, a little variasion and it would work nicely :)

dARKLOWN,
I am also part of this project, and I agree that lighting could have used some more work, but we did want to keep it pretty dark overall.

The kids are quite simlar, the two boys are actually Twins so it makes sense that they look alike, they are actually a bit different in shape though.

Mallory (the sister) has had quite a bit of changes to her geometry compared to her brothers, maybe a bit more could have been needed ehh?

It all ended up coming down to a time issue unfortunately.

Thanks to all for the comments so far, it's quite appreciated.

It´s a very nice idea and realization. Right now i´m reading those books. The only thing I see extrange is the faces of the 3 brothers, specially their nose and mouth, looks a little weird. Tha phantasy animal are great.

Congratulations to all of you for your great work.

For those of you with darker monitors like mine, here is an adjusted image so you can see the details a bit better.
