this looks like another book im going to have to pick up.. cool how everybody is picking such unique characters to model. at first i was thinking of cookie cutter movie licences but these choices are going to make for a really unique contest!

may have bitten off more than i can chew. i didn't realize that i would be coming up with my own look for wednesday, i was totally convinced that i'd seen him already. anyone else ever been so immersed in a book that days later you feel as if it were not a book that you read, but a movie?
i was thinking about trying morpheus. or space girl by azpiri. but i think i will stick with wednesday.
just trying to get the color scheme down...

Thats a fairly good start. Don't forget that he has a fake eye *glass eye*, and wears a large rimmed hat. He is Odin. So look at some norse art of the gods. Maybe give you some ideas. I think you can do it.:beer:

nice start! id say you should give him a go! if he gives you alot of trouble you could always try somehting else. lots of time.

here is my mesh. right off the bat, wednesday doesn't seem to be the most compelling character, looks-wise. will try to counter that hopefully by the time i am done.
i am actually a little embarrassed to post this since i have only barely begun to tweak, and the lapels are esp. ugly.
still looking for the perfect suit.
also struggling a bit since this if my first maya model. is there an easier way to put in edge loops than by using the cut tool?

he looks pretty good considering hes in a suit. which is really hard to model since the forms are based off cloth kinetics.. if you want to see some really well done low poly suits check out "Monolith's" no one lives forever and no one lives forever 2 characters.. the net has lots of pics of them.. a friend of mine modeled the characters and he has amazing skill in modeling/texturing clothes.

My Max teacher told me about the life drawing meetings that go down. I wasn't sure if you had to pay...and right now I got no flow:( the last of my $$$ went into finishing up a Maya course at BCC so I can actually be eligible for all these contract jobs that Art Source keeps posting:P
Do you go to them? I'd love to get back into some life drawing I haven't done it a couple years. If you have any info on it I'd really like to read up on it.
Anyways, don't want to steal the thread.
I'm actively anticipating this model.
The face looks good so far but I want to see more reference material if you have it.
As for Maya stuff. If you used Max in the past and liked the ability to target weld...oh man do I have THEE best script for ya.
Some dude over in the Maya forum WROTE this script for me...its tight.
Here I'll link to it.
this script is AWESOME I don't know what I'd do without it. No more merging vert crap...just click on the vert you want welded then click on the vert its to be welded to and BAM. Its faster than Max's weld which I thought was the coolest.
Anyways, back to modeling.

visual reference for american gods is pretty rare! i'm not sure it even exists.
luckily, gaimans characters aren't entirely original. here is my reference so far, a portrait of odin, kids in suits and ties, and my head sketches.
Got in some tweaking time! A guy told me it looked amateurish before, and I totally agree! still chuckling about that.

NOW that head is coming along nicely! thats a huge leap forward in coolness since your first wip post.. I also really like those concepts.. that beard is awesome! i like how it blends into the hair in back...
did you ever find a pic of volkov? let me know and ill try to fix that attachment if it still doesnt work for you..
does it work for anyone else?

yup I've gotten Volkov. the problem wasn't the file after all, twas my browser. the pants look great! very accurate, the way it falls.
