View Full Version : Which arm's and leg's attributes would you rather animate with?

Hey folks

Look at this image with arm's attributes :

Do you like to animate with such control over your arm or you would rather have something like this :

1. fist (all fingers affected)
2. relax (all fingers affected)
3. spread (all fingers affected)

4.thumb Y
5.thumb Z
6. index
7. middle
8. ring
9. pinkie

I prefer to use what you have in the image. It's nicer to be able to control each part of the finger than the whole finger.

Like SirRon I like to have plenty of options when it come to animation arms and hands. I do my rigs the same way you have on your image except for the IK finger I don't think it's nessesary if you have enough control over your fingers.

From now on i will definetly not use IK for fingers.

Anyway come on people, more opinions are welcomed ...

Controls for the legs are pretty simple I think, IK/FK switch, pole vector for the knee. The feet I think should have
Heel
Heel pivot (rotate along X)
Lift Heel/Roll
Toe
Toe pivot side to side (rotate along Y)
Bank

I think that's it... The very least the roll.

By the way here is my list for the legs attributes :

1. Switch_IK_FK
2. Knee_lock
3. Twist
4. Foot_roll
5. Tap
6. Tip_lift
7. Tip_rotate
8. Heel_lift
9. Heel_rotate

You think these are enough ?

I've never actually used IK fingers, but I just think it would be an interesting rig to have. Like having the fingers naturally bend when you push it against something.

As for your foot controls, they look fine too me, I think it's enough. From I've heard about rigging though is that it all depends on what exactly you want the character to do. Those are all the basic ones that rigs generally need. I guess you could had a stretch too for the arms and legs, but like I said it all depends.
