Hi guys, ive been offered a animation job where the model was build in cin.4d I would prefer to animate the model in cin.4d but maybe my only option are to import it to maya or 3dsmax and animate it there, so my question is.. Is it possible? how is it done? hope any of you can help.

Best bet is to export as .obj to preserve quads. Just use the File-->Export--Wavefront option.

Will the .obj import into 3dsmax or will it just to Maya (from the 'wavefront' exporting menu?). I'd like to be able to import Cinema stuff into 3dsmax but i'm not sure how either.

thanks,
Kevin

There's a free .obj import plugin but I'm not sure where you'd get it. I'm sure a post in the Max forum would turn up the answer.

Well if you are exporting to MAX
Just export as .3DS from Cinema4DXL

no, that'll triangulate the mesh and make it look F*&@ing awful :)

it could also create ugly rendering artifacts

Yeah, your best bet is to use VRML, it keeps the quads... The normals are a bit screwed but that can be fixed by a click of a button and you'll have to weld the vertices by threshold but that's easy too.

There is VRML 1 and VRML 2 export options in Cinema 4D. Is one better than the other? If you know, it'll save me time not having to test them both out.
Thanks for the feedback thus far.

I think that the new OHM by Helge Mathee may be the answer.

Check it out at http://www.mindthink.de/

Both VRML1 and 2 import the same so it shouldn't matter, atleast I haven't found any difference between them.
