This was posted in another thread about early computer animation. The 2d characters were animated by Glen Keane.
Still holds up.
Wow, nice animation, interesting look to it too, but it looks f*** all like where the Wild things are! which is pretty stupid, as that was one of the nice things with the book, why the hell have they changed it so much? lame.

The thing you have to remember is:
1. This was only done for the purpose of testing the technology; it was never meant to be a full adaptation. It's a test, nothing more.
2. This was 1983. Not only does it predate the early use of cg in Disney animated features, it is more sophisticated than anything we would see for quite some time.
3. There had already been an animated "Where the Wild Things Are", done in the style of the book illustrations, directed in 1976 by Gene Deitch.
There's also a live action film currently in production with Jim Henson puppets.

How long was the finished animation? Was it a short? Is it available to buy?

I think that's all they did with it.

yeah this would have been a test for later features such as Beauty and the Beast with its CG ballroom scene that was a major breakthrough.
