MOTOR and the new animation layering pretty much negates my need for using motion builder ever again.

i love softimage:love:

the new Crosswalk is sweet!!...

I read that there are big implementations on the render layer system wich as it is now is far more friendly that maya render layers.... i hope to see a video of all the new render features soon in xsi 6:thumbsup:.

Thanks Leonard, those are great videos.. I was very interested in all of those features, esp. Crosswalk and Delta and from what I have seen they are true revolutionary, considering we will get them built in into off the shelf application.

Would be great to see Crosswalk in Maya though :).

Guys you need to realize a couple of things.

Softimage is hard at work to release the software right now so thats probably their priority. I am sure on launch we'll have all the vids we want to see and more.

More importantly the software is currently in beta so they cant possibly release a full feature list since its not set in stone yet. You have already read about the major features that will be in this version so you know what to expect.

I have been using 6 in its beta form for for a while and I can without any doubt say that if you upgrade you will NOT be disappointed. It's one of the best upgrades to come out for xsi regardless of if you are a FND user , big studio , small studio . freelancer or hobbyist. After all when was the last time softimage released a update that sucked? :)

my 2 cents.

except animation retargeting and remapping has been in maya for a while now, altho it's not as tight as motor is...
which makes the original comment even more out of place anyway.

Man...even i that have been away from 3d for some time now am drooling all over the features seen on those 3 videos with my brain saying me wants it NOW!!! me wants it NOW!!!...whatever comes more, even better, those features alone and the symmetry modeling are more than worth the upgrade :)

Do we know the release date?
It's only a couple of months since I got 501 and, wonderfull as the new features are, I see little change on the modeling side.
Is the 21st the release date?

Would it breach the NDA for a tester to coment on whether he'd recomend the upgrade on modeling alone?

Cheers guys

Does that mean there will be true symmetry modeling in 6 ?
Where did you read that ?

Try searching for the recap of the latest Softimage Montreal User Group meeting on XSI base. I think Bernard mentioned that it was shown very briefly for a couple of seconds...

Why not start using XSI aswell? By the time Maya catches up, XSI will have more new features you'll want to have in Maya. XSI 6 should integrate easily with a Maya pipeline so you can have these features 'right now'.

Just a simple text document with all the new XSI 6 features would satisfy me.

Hey Sheepfactory, have the hardware requirements changed drastically for this next version? I don't know if you can comment on that, or at least what the workstation you're using is, and what the performance is like for you (remembering of course that it is beta).

I understand... we're just getting very excited. Many of the shown features have changed our development priorities already, and we just happen to making budgets and R&D allocations right now, so knowing what's there would help... I wish we would have had time to commit to the beta this year.

The small comment about the Ascii format about made me hit the floor... must... have... moooorrrre.... details.

So does anyone know if this is going to be a physical CD upgrade from 5.1 or a download? I've also heard a few people mentioning improvements in playback speed with 6. Is this confirmed already or is it just a rumor? I agree, even a little bit more info would be very useful and would make all the difference on whether or not to upgrade for me.

I'll go more with the latest, i think this was already there, but it was made more with a TD kinda of aproach in mind instead of a more straigh way for the "artists", my opinion of course.

But seriously, nice job Softimage. I am very happy I switched from Maya last year.
