I'm trying to create a lengthy scene composed of several different camara angles. I don't see any way in max to switch cameras other than do separate renders and manually select the different cameras and frame numbers.

Is this the normal way to do this type of thing? Is it necessary to create separate rendered files and put them together in something else, such as Premiere?

i'm pretty sure there's a way to switch between cameras during rendering.. i may be mixing it with another software platform tho. i'll get back to you on it if i can.

It is possible to do it. the only way i know how is to render via video post. what i have done is set up a "scene event" for each camera, and inside that put a "file output" event. then set up the time range for each "scene event". and make sure that in each of the "file output" event that the filename being rendered to is the same. then just execute the sequence.

The scene event tip is interesting. Another way, and possibly simpler way, is to use the Camera Manager script at:

http://www.comet-cartoons.com/toons/maxscript.cfm

It works pretty well once I got used to the idea that it only works with target cameras and not free cameras. I initially found this very limiting, but I finally realized with a little extra work, I can make a target camera work the same way as a free camera.

With the script you configure what frames you want to go with what camera and it all renders correctly. Pretty nice work. It's surprising to me this is lacking in Max.
