how do i attach a few objects to soemthing and then meshsmooth it so that when i mesh smooth they look like the same object and not multiple ones since they aren't hooked together during the smooth? thanks.

if the attached objects overlap this won't work, you should probably boolean your objects..
otherwise, you could try to weld the vertices.

i don't know what booleaning my objects is but i will explor welding the vertices

I dont have a clue about how much you already know but.

When you want to weld two different objects.

1. Attach the other object.
2. Delete Polygons that will end up "inside" this "new object"
3. Weld the vertices.

If you choose to just weld the vertices and not delete the polygons mentioned you will end up with weird smoothing results.

Booleans can do this process automatically BUT will provide you with a million unnecessary vertices and you will end upp with a dirty mesh.

GL!

shoot another problem has occurred,

i selected five vertices to be welded to other vertcies, except i want to have these five vertices weld to another five vertices so that is doesn't look like a thin line weld, how do i do this? thanks.

Do you mean you want to weld:

5 + 5 = 5

or

5 + 5 = 1

woah excelent mathematics :p

You have to setup the maximum distance between 2 or more vertices to be welded.

5+5 = 1

what woudl my like distance be, i type in the biggest nubmer and it won't work

Can you post a screen of what is going on?

icq 13752259 if u use it.

the circle shows what i need to attach, btw is it possible to weld polygons?

Not that I know of, I cant hardly see anything in that picture hehe. Are you sure the 2 objects are attached?

Maybe you should try the welding technique at more primitive objects, start attaching 2 boxes to each other and weld their sides.

Got to get some sleep before breakfast time :p 04:06 here atm.

later

(You can always use a skyhigh value for the welding if u positively know what vertices you want to weld if you want them all to merge at one point)

Xilica, are you on cable or dsl? if so, i can make a simple video to show you some different methods of accomplishing your goal.

just a thought. make sure you delete the polygons between where the 2 objects will be welded. if your a max5'er and a poly object it wont weld that. also why not try and do a target weld. thats easier i think.

okay. i'm gonna make one and then put up. do you mind if it's 15-30mb's? i'll show you the method i'd go about doing it w/out extra tools like meshtools cspoly etc. if you dont, then i'll edit this post and put a link up. it'll only take a sec

sorry i just like making videos any chance i get :bounce:

you know what they say, beggers can't be choosers :)

yea, make it any time/size you want, you don't even have to make one i mean i am just happy you are takign the time to have one

yay. okay i'll edit this post w/the link when i'm finished. :applause:
