I was just thinking now that r10 has such a nice animation interface and great character tools, it would be great if one could apply mocap right inside c4d. It would be amazing to be able to take some mocap data from another app or an online library and apply it in c4d without having to go into motion builder or 3d studio max.

Anyone else think this would be a good idea? How feasable do you think this would be? Any opinions post here.

You're so right, it's a total shame that C4D hasn't been able to natively read BVH files since version 5 or 6 or something...

I was thinking more along the lines of the ability to apply a mocap track to a rig within c4d.

Sorry it had to be said (also it has FBX support since 8).

Regardless what Cinema lacks as of yet for dealing with motion captured stuff (though it existed in C4D all the way up till R10, but then was then removed in 10.0) is decent nla/animation layers. Support for the fileformats involved is not a problem.

Just drag and drop it in the timeline.

Yes i understand that. I did not make my myself clear. I should have written about applying it to a character rig.

So here's what i'm thinking of. In 3d studio max you select the character studio rig and one can apply a .c3d, .bvh, etc. right within max.

How can i do this in c4d? If this is easy stuff i have never read anything about it. I don't understand what you mean by drag it into the timeline? How does this apply a mocap to a character rig?

Drag & drop of tracks is simply a way to transfer rotation (or any other animation data ) between any objects and parameter at all in cinema, be they a rig or anything else. i.e. you'd just load in the bvh (merge into your scene if you want) then drag the rotation data from the joints manually accross to your own rigs joints, keys and tracks aren't limited to staying in one place vertically in the timeline. You could also try using the retargeting (Tags->Character Tags->Retarget), the online help should cover how to make use of this.
