View Full Version : boolean help
max_5 02-14-2003, 09:24 PM I am making a scene that has a very common type of door. My problem is I can't get the engraving things to work right. I made a surface of what needs to be cut out to use as the subtracted boolean object, but every time I try, it gets messed up :argh: . It doesn't cut it right no mater what I try. I know this is kind of vague but it's hard to describe.
Any help?
Here is a picture of the door and my object that I wan't to get the engraving from.

I made the frame shapes by extruding a line and converting it into an editable mesh. the door is just made from a box.

An option is to "build" the frames thingies into the door.
Make a door. Pick a face, then do a series of Outline/Extrudes/Bevels on it. Hell, you could probably stitch the ones you already have made into the door(!).
Are you proficient with Splines or NURBS?
Personally, I would go with Splines to NURBS.

what i would do is make a box the same exact size as the engraved thingy. stick that in the door. boolean subtract it. then slide your engraved thing in there.

Yeah do that. by the looks of it you want your "ingraved" stuff on the door like a feature. so subtracting it from the door wont give you that result.
