Questions in the title really. I've heard all kinds of talk but which is the best purely for MAX?

I would have to say win2k for most people, BUT... I am running XP and it's WAYYY more stable and a lot faster. I know this is my own experience but XP is awsome. It's just sooo damn stable. No crashes EVER.

This is what I'm talking about. The majority of people say Windows 2000 is definitely the way to go, but then some say either XP is the best ever or that XP is a major hassle because of licencing problems and everything.
I really would like to come to some kind of answer because at the moment I've got Windows 98 and this is way too unstable crashing loads to such an extent that I want to change operating systems, but I need to make sure I choose the right one.

What kind of puter do you have? Custom?

OK if your gonna buy a OS... go with XP. They've worked out a lot of the 2k bugs and it's just a great OS. Besides, why run NT4 if 2k is out. So if XP is out... why run 2k. Oh well, that's just my opinion because my system runs like a rock.

Discreet recommends Win2K for 3DS 4.2 for 3DS 3.1 its WinNT. XP is ok to run it on, NT is terrible for 4.2.

I use it on both xp & win2k both perform the same, Xp is basically a new version of win2k so the kernel is the same.
The only thing is that you need to download an update of c-dilla for xp lisencing. other than that, it works fine.

and don't believe the "never crashes" things. every os crashes. but with xp, I got a nice "sorry for the inconvinience" text in my error window :D

A blue screen of apology? LOL! That's almost like M$ admitting that it was their fault!
