Here is my concept for Mirsky's air-sled, i was thinking of a bird like hawk wing design but to make it work it would have been a massive vehicle and that didn't seem right. This design feels better for a smaller covert vehicle.

just warming up my drawing hand, it's been a long time.
Any how just a little bit more detail and should be able to get on with 3d modeling Mirsky him self.

Looks good so far! Just one suggestion: Mirsky starts off in vacuum, so he needs a space helmet. But I really like the look of the rocket and air sled. Best of luck to you in this contest.

Thanks man, I kind of expected / guessed he might needed a helmet.
Just only got a copy of EON now and will find out what kind of man Mirsky is and what he looks like.
Then I’ll base him on a real life actor that fits the bill.

Just read Mirsky's part in the book, and the air-sled is nothing more then a panel of metal!!
Will have too re-think my concept or look at another part of the book to do.
Any way, here are my notes on Mirsky:
He should look like he comes from the Soviet era
He looks like he comes from East Germany
I think he is about 28-29 years old (school+uni+space force)
he uses a AKV-297 Automatic vacuum adapted projectile Kalashnikov rifle, with folding stock and a over sized bullet clip (side mounted trigger)
he wears a light weight spacesuit and a bulky helmet
his bulky helmet has commumcations, head up display and location gear in it
has a back pack with oxygen, battery pack and small thruster units at the bottom
thruster units on back pack are controlled by a unit on his wrist (connected by a cable above his suit)
he also has a parachute pack and folded shield/air-sled (i guess this is attached to his front)
air-sled is a just a panel of metal that can be folded
he also has a laser rifle
not too sure how close i should follow the book?

At the end of the book, it mentions Mirsky marking his birthday. I think it gives his age as 32. No big deal, of course. I think you've got a lot of wiggle room in establishing Mirsky's look.

I think the air-sled might look a bit like Felix Baumgartner when he did his Redbull stunt across the english channel, but Mirsky's air-sled can fold and i think it would be infront of him (not on his back).

Whoops! Um... I mean... he, uh... DOESN'T mark his birthday. Yeah... Um...
(Sorry about that. Don't worry -- it's a pretty small part of the ending, just mentioned in passing.)

Here is my first draft model of Edward Norton’s face, it’s very crude at the moment but I hope to do a lot in Z-Brush and the photo was quickly slapped on.
My short list of actors who I thought might look good as Mirsky were:
Edward Norton
Ewan McGregor
Jude Law
Mark Wahlberg
I went with Edward Norton as he looks a bit more weathered / stressed then the rest and that seem appropriate for a space shock trooper.

Here is a quick update of the z-brush work on Edward Norton’s face, I think I may have been a bit heavy handed on his wrinkles.

Heavy-handed on the wrinkles? I don't think so. It looks good. Plus, it needn't look exactly like Norton. After all, it's Mirsky, not Norton :).
