Hi,

I just finished modeling and imac and i need to animate it to take steps, but am stuck with rigging. Have tried parenting the imac to some controls it didn't work. Please if you have any steps i can take or tutorials that could help i will be grateful. I use maya, i also attached some images of the kind of steps am talking about.

the pictures you posted look like it's walking already...??
I'd just make the whole thing a child of a locator and animate that....?

Yes, that was because i changed the pivot point and rotated so that people could see what i meant. I don't think it possible to make the cube a child to two locators at the same time.

I think I get what you're going for, and I also think using a locator is probably the easiest way to go. Apologies if this isn't what you were going for.

I set up a locator controlling a cube quickly by doing the following steps:

1) Create a locator and move it above the iMac (or wherever it is you want the control to be)

2) Freeze transforms on the locator.

3) Use the connection editor to connect the translate x, y, and z of the locator to the translate x, y, and z of the iMac.

4) Select the locator and then the iMac, and do an orient constraint.

I don't know how familiar you are with Maya, so if you need more explination on any parts of that, I'd be glad to go into more depth.

@ BUrban,

Thanks for the reply. I did what you said and i was getting weird rotations.

I also posted a small video of the kind of walk i want to achieve.

How were the rotations weird? It might be easy to fix, and I was able to get a walk that looked like the one in the video with that setup fairly simply, so I don't know what would make it not work for you.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that in the connection editor if you just connect "rotation" to "rotation" instead of expanding both and connecting "rotate x" to "rotate x" and the same for the Y and Z, it can sometimes cause issues.

Sure, I've got time. Either just post it here, or email it to me at BRUrban @ gmail.com (without the spaces before and after the "@") And I'll take a look at it.
