Not another thread?! You say? :D

Anyhow, here's the thing. I've been thinking about my future economy and stuff and the artist in me wants a part of the cake. :)

In 2008 I'm planning to go abroad to a certain country in the east and study the language there. As I don't want to bring my stationary computer with me I'm going to sell it by then and invest in something new. So here's the possibilities.

Bauhaus Mirage Nomad (http://www.bauhaussoftware.com/products_nomad_LP.php) - First I'm not picky about being limited to 1024x768 and some people are giving this product good reviews. Anyhow, it's getting a tad old. I myself would love the freedom to sit down anywhere and just draw, maybe sit out in public and draw from life? ;) (I'm not really sure but is the mirage nomad just a special bundle?)
Laptop + A5 Tablet - Concidering I'm going abroad I'll probably want to be able to easily bring my computer with me, but I wonder if it's really that important to use this combination just to get more power in the package? (ram and cpu)
Cintiq + old PC - Skip selling my PC and bring it with me through shipment and add a Cintiq to it. But it feels like I'll loose some freedom with this one. I know the Cintiq would be wonderful in many ways, but is it really that much better than a tablet PC if you want the physical freedom?
I as an artist don't go mega resolution except when I do lineart and I rarely use more than 3 layers. I also sketch alot and precision wouldn't hurt. I'm concidering to use Alias Sketchbook Pro or openCanvas4.5 with my combination. (no, not Photoshop or painter)

I'm leaning towards the first solution but I wouldn't be surprised if there's more and better choices than the Nomad, but it wouldn't hurt to be able to sit outside and draw.

A last question, when drawing on a tablet pc or on a cintiq. Ain't it quite easy to make the screen smudgy? I mean, wouldn't it be ideal to use thin textile gloves?

Did you mention 2008 or was it a typo?
If you mean two thousand and eight, then just plainly wait...

In today's terms, I'd go for a new laptop and an intuos A5wide.
You'll get good power under the hood and a good digitizer to match. Nomad is compromize in every way, and cintiq is exessive pricewise without a pc.

Well I'll second tha if it's 2008 that you should wait... but will add that I've had excellent results with my Toshiba tablet and Mirage so would definately wait to see what the next generation of tablet pc's have to offer.

If one can work easily and comfortably on a tablet pc (which has a low res tablet, modified pressure sensitivity, no tilt etc) he will definetely work as well or even better using a current line laptop with an intuos A5 or larger.
Price-wise it will come out more or less the same, around $2.5K.
The difference is that tablet pc has obsolete specs, from cpu, ram, hdd, vga to small and lowres display...

If only tablet pc's came with the specs of most current line notebooks...

For one who needs to work just like using a sketchpad, without having a table or anything to put the notebook and tablet on, then tabletpc's are the solution, but not an efficient one nor cost effective either.

A yeah, it's a long time 'till 2008 but it's not a typo. Maybe I should've mentioned this from the start but these were more like reference points. Do you guys have any ideas how tablet pc's are coming along technology wise?

I'm thinking a bit about laptop though now.... It would be nice to be able to play some new games a little bit decent from time to time. :D
