Can anyone please explain, in plain english, the process of rendering with depth buffers to comping (or creating dof) in After Effects.

I'm totally confusticated and can't work it out...

--oh yeah - my AE can't read IFF's - just to make it easy....

I've to use this effect in AE too... but it has not work. The scale of the parameters to manage the blur are too big!!!

So i've no reply ;)

i had this problem too, i think you have to use rla's, number one, and number two, the default values in the depth of field are like -10000 and 10000, waaaaaaaay too big, you need like .6 and stuff like that, all less than 1. but the main problem i had was the final result looks like crud. instead of blurring to get depth of field it looks more like a mosaic. but if you can figure out a way to get that looking better let me know! hope this helps. :buttrock:

umm, sorry to appear really stoopid, but what's an rla?

Also what layer do I apply the depth effects to - and what settings do I use when I import the images (so far as tga's) into AE. If I use the alpha it treats it as a transparency alpha - if I ignore it, it isn't there to be affected by the depth effects :scream: - if you know what I mean....
