View Full Version : Biped Problems! Need help ASAP, Please!
DigitalCrystal 02-14-2003, 03:38 AM Hey folks,
My friend and I are up against a deadline and we need to know how to resize a biped+mesh(with skin modifier) character.
We're using Character Studio 3, and using 3d Studio Max 5.
We've tried many many many different things, and all we get is a wad of jumbled verticies and stretched lines.
If you have any help for us, please let us know!
And if you need me to clearify more, just post!
Thanks a WHOLE LOT!!

Hell if I know :\
Can you save the skin settings, remove it, scale the biped, reapply Skin, and load the settings back in?
Or maybe use the Scale World utility found in the Utility panel?

Select the biped, turn on Figure mode, and then change the biped height on the Structure rollout.
Have you tried this? It may not work with the skin modifier.
Hmm, that probably wont work, i can't think of anything else, that hasn't been suggested, sorry.
Howdy !
Nahaz has got the right solution: if physique/skin is properly applied and all meshes vertices taken into account, then select the "bip00" and go to figure mode, scale it's height and the mesh will scale along.

Thanks for your help,
We have tried to scale the biped's height in the roll out menu. And that scewwed the mesh pretty badly. Now, the mesh may not be completely linked to the skin, I haven't been working on the character, my partner has been doing that. He couldn't figure out why it wasn't working properly and neither could I.
We're only using the skin modifier, do you think the lack of Physique would cause this problem? Or is it that some points just aren't painted completely?
Thanks again for your help...
Re -
i have never used skin with biped, eventhough i think it should run just fine, then my guess is that indeed some vertices would not be properly taken in any enveloppe, or some are not part of any link.
then, brings up a question: why using skin when there is physique ? i don't want to start a thread on wether to use skin or physique, but just if you're using bipeds then maybe physique is what's best... just a thought.
ps: on a rigged char here, scaling the biped from structure panel in figure mode works just fine.

Aply an xform modifier after the skining.
This is definitly cheating but it definitly works, and is a fast solution. Even though this reply is'nt :-)

I've never had any luck with scaling a biped while the model was skinned to it. It distorts the mesh. What I've done in the past is save the skinning info, collapse the mesh, scale the mesh, change the height of the biped as has been mentioned, reapply the skin modifier, and then reload the skinning info. It's a lot of steps, but it works.
Plus, I do believe you can apply an Edit Mesh modifier on top of the Skin modifier and then go into subobject mode and scale the model independantly from the biped, and even move it off of the biped, and it will still animated fine.
