View Full Version : importing poly object from Max
chudofsinister 02-14-2003, 03:04 AM hey whats the best way to import subds into maya. I made an object in 3dmax and exported it as a poly OBJ with quads. opened i up in Maya, everything looks right. I try to convert it to a Sub-d object and it will not do it, I end up just putting a smooth on it to subdivide the mesh. Can you convert imported object to sub'd? what am I doint wrong here? I am pretty new to maya as you can probably tell.

Sure you can convert imported polygon meshes to subds.
If you have problems converting it, try to delete history. Also check in the convert options that Maximum Base Mesh Faces has an enough high value to allow maya to convert.
If this still doesn't work, maybe try to re-export the mesh to dxf and re-import it.

Another thing you might need to experiment with is "clean up polygons"-tool. This usually helps but there's a whole bunch of options, so experiment; try one at a time...
