Hi, I'm interested in a career as an effects animator and have some basic experience in both 2D and 3D. Since no one is really interested in effects at my school, I'm mostly on my own. I'm currently trying to get a decent reel together, and am curious about what studios look for in a reel. How would I tailor a reel for video games differently than a reel for film or TV? Also, what skills should I have under my belt when I start looking for a job? I have training in traditional animation and illustration, as well as some Maya experience (modeling, rigging, particle and sprite systems, fluid dynamics). Are there any other types of software or learning resources I should take a look at?
If anyone has a professional effects reel they'd like to share, I'd really appreciate it! I really want to know what the industry standard is so I can compare my own work to it. Thanks for your time!
