Hi!
I'm trying to fill a a quite simple 3d form with multiple versions of another 3d object. Due to the multitude of adjustments (high number of objects varying in size and rotation) I can't say that I can do it by hand. Is there an automated way to do that?

Sounds like a task for MoGraph or DiCloner.

That is where Mograph excells. As Kai is fond of saying, Mograph is a great modeling tool.

Mike Batchelor has been saying it even more than me lately, and he is a mograph guy.

It involves a lot of the same thing, or highly reptitive steps, mograph is probably the tool you need

I was hoping you wouldn't use the word mograph...
I know that it's an excellent plug-in with many uses but at the time I can't afford it.
Is DiCloner any good?

Hey,

Not sure if this is a help. I've used this technique to fill sphere's and boxes with objects rather than doing it by hand. You can use adjustments to rotate and change sizes of the object emitted.

I've attached the file. See if it helps at all.

3d attack have a free plugin called Replica

Maybe it might help

in Your Example you use the good old Fizz PlugIn. Is there an Update for R10? or something similar?

Ok made an early really expensive christmas present to myself. I bought mograph and started playing minutes ago.
And as it is expected I can't get the result I want.
I want to loosely create a shape out of other objects. But what I've managed to do so far is make the other objects follow the shape of the object which is not really what I want.
I want the question mark to be loosely defined by the diamonds. The have to be varied in size rotation and of course depth. Any ideas?

I'd clone your object to the shape w/ Mograph Cloner (object mode) and add a Random effector to make it "loosely" follow the shape.

The effector trick worked. I had to reduce the strength of it quite a bit to follow better the main shape.
But the form still looks quite rigid. The rotation isn't really changed from diamond to diamond even though I played with the numbers in the random effector

Two things. One, under the random effector Paramater -> Transform you can select position, scale, and/or rotation. I believe that you are after position and rotation. The position will effect how much distance from the object spline MG will place the clones. The Rotation is just that you can specify how much and which axis' to apply to the clones. I think you know that, but with the effector strength set at 12% you are limiting the amout of randomness applied. So crank up your effector strength and lower the position parameters and you should get what you need. HTH

You should check out Millenium's free video tutorials at www.creativecow.com There must be close to a couple of hours of very informative instruction.

What i would recommend for something like this is to actually use the grid mode, and then use a shader effector to control what clones are hidden/removed from the grid (clone visibility in the effector). Then in the shader effector use a texture of your question mark. This will get you a nice "even" shape (though you can of course apply a random effector first then you'll get all jumbled up clones but it'll still be sharp to the edges of your "?" as anything outside will get culled.

Not sure. Sorry.
No, there's no update. I don't know if one is planned.
