crtl + c = copy
ctrl + v = paste to new layer
ctrl + d = deselect
ctrl + shift + d = reselect
but im thinking you want the visiblity off... i dont know if you can do that...
other good tips:
x = toggle backgroud/foreground colors! whoOhoO!
hold alt while holding a brush and the eyedropper shows up!
crtl + shift + i = invert the selection!
this should really be in the photoshop section.

if you're on a layer hold ctrl+shift+arrow key and it duplicates the layer and nudges it 10 pixels.
or ctrl+arrow key duplicated and nudges 1 pixel
also you can use arrow keys and shift+arrow key to nudge your layer..
very helpful :D

Shift-O to toggle through the dodge and burn tools.
actually, shift + any of the tool palette shortcuts cycles through the tools in general.
btw isn't there a Photoshop forum for these kinds of questions? :(
