View Full Version : Question: How to make a dynamic leash.

A friend of mine is doing an animation wherein a man is walking a dog by a leash... he's been having trouble getting a leash rigged up that would be pulled by both ends (the end at the mans hand and the end at the dogs collar) and react realistically to the animation (so far he tried a rig where there's a leash mesh skinned onto two bones which are IK, then put dynamic fx over that, but it was too buggy and didn't work).

Any suggestions for a good way to set this up? Sorry if I didn't explain the problem well, just ask if you have questions. Thanks!

If he has Maya Unlimited he could possibly use cloth, or maybe Spline IK with some sort of dynamics controlling the clusters?

The spline IK idea is pretty good, I'll ask if he's tried that :)

Yeah and use the spring deformer it will give you some realistic movement.

Spring deformer, gotcha

Anybody know good dynamics tutorials related to this I could point out to him?? You can throw up links to other threds too cause I'm just going to let him look at this thred later.
