Hi all

I havce used the split command many times before, but today, something strange happened. I tried to split a surface with another surface (a pipe to be exact), after the operation had completed, the split was perfect but a problem popped up elswhere on the mesh, like a blemish, or as if there were some triangulation problems on the mesh (similar to what you would get in 3d studio)

Anyone come across this problem before?

And one other thing, when I render or look on a shaded viewport, sometimes the solid part of the object does not ahdere to the actual nurbs (as if its a low poly approximation if you catch my meaning)

Thanks for your time guys.

Kelvin

Go to Tools-->Options-->Mesh.
Select Smooth&Slower.
If it doesn't satisfy you, Select Custom and reduce MAximum Angle value.

VetteMan's tip should solve the second part of your problem (which arises because, while Rhino use Nurbs for modeling and calculation, but visualisation and rendering is based on therefor transformed polygon meshes).
As for the first part, I would need to see a screenshot of the model in question, to be sure what the source of the problem is. It could be related to mesh settings. it could be that you have a solid object which is exploded into seperate surfaces - sometimes rhino then shows rough edges - just join them then the problem should be gone. and the last option could be, that you caught some of these infamouse phantom surfaces - they are a known bug, appearing with split/trim, boolean or fillet edge command. to avoid them u need to set your unit toelrance a bit stricter, if this does not help either then you have to do the operation manually/another way
