View Full Version : God & Demon Character- KFC
Hi everyone.
I've just came out with this sketch after my dinner just now. Since i couldn't finish my previous challenge, i hope i can really finish it this time.
Some people might expect me to model it. to be honest, i can't find the time yet. So i'll do it by using Painter.

Beautiful sketch! Looking forward to your 2d interpretation in Painter <my personal favourite paint program of all time>
I've created this Devil according to an ancient Emperor of China name Chao Chao.
well, according to the epic. He's a demon himself.
and the sketch that i've created is the demon side of him. There's no reference for this devil so i've sorta created it by blending in more western style.
I'm still very interested to model it in 3d. but too bad, I'm only got 2 weeks left. and i don't wan't to end out with WIP product.
sigh....
ok, I'm going to start my work later.

Good sketch.. I like the face of him. looking forward to see updats!
Here is a little update for Demon Emperor.
I'm abit tired now and i'm going to sleep later. I'll continue on this once i wake up.
The mood that i'm trying to create here is a very dark, heavy, mysterious scene.

Wow!!! Kfc.... you rock!!! ;)
Your concept is very promising!!!

Wow, Kong, looking great! I love the concept design, and it looks like you are executing it flawlessly in 3D. I love the horns growing out of the chin. Very different. The pose in the sketch is great as well.
Keep us updated!
w0w0w, very very nice, can't wait to see it finished.
what did you render that with?

:buttrock:
thanks!
Threedeemer, DigitalSkunkwrx, bike.
i'm uploading my updates now. stay tune.
i'm modeling the body part. alot of attention is putting on the ribcage, back, shoulder and arm.
as for the renderer. it's a native renderer in maya by using dome lights.
here is a little update on the ears.
http://fantasyinside.com/wip/devilmodel3.jpg
here is another update for the body.
http://fantasyinside.com/wip/devilmodel4.jpg
http://fantasyinside.com/wip/devilmodel5.jpg
well, as you can see from the sketch. i'm trying to create a body which has different muscle structure from a human. but at the same time looks as logic compare to human muscle.
maybe I've been influenced too much from fantasy art.
haha....
btw, i didn't connect the head with the body yet. it might seem odd at this point. but it just the personal habbit for modeling. i prefer to keep it till the end.

Hi, very great model... what method do you use though?... Do you use sub-d?... cuz I find that in MAYA when you have two faces and you exturde them in sub-d they seperats into two pieces?.. so dunno how to model in sub-d.....
Neat model... very good modeling skill.. keep up the good work!!

well... the solution to this problem would be. go to Polygon menu> Tool Options> Keep faces togather (check this one).
oh well..... i'm working on a freelance stuff now. hope i can get back to this demon later.
thanks for viewing my thread.

Hey KFC (I'll be damned if I can't get "Kentucky Fried Chicken" out of my head everytime I see your screenname - damn American marketing!)
The head of your character would make an incredible mask! I love the expression, especially the wrinkles of the compressor and dilatator naris (wrinkles on the side of the nose) I'm also liking the proportions better as it makes the transition from 2d to 3d (I felt the jaw was too wide in the drawing) and it now looks more correct as it tapers narrowly and then flares out with the horns protruding from the chin.
My one piece of constructive criticism would be with the appearance of the muscles. I know he's not supposed to resemble human anatomy, but I would still like to see more evidence of muscles overlapping bone structure (and one another) instead of a "pinching" where two muscles meet. The most jarring to me would be in the lumbar region of the back. It needs a bit more solidity, especially considering all that top-heavy weight he'll be carrying.
Other than that, I'm really impressed with what you've completed thus far and am really glad you decided to jump in and start modeing him. Screw the deadline! Just continue modeling, I want to see this finished in all its gnarly detailed glory! :scream:
Sketchguy, thanks for ur support~
:)
and thanks for the suggestion. i believe the reason why the back might looks a little weak to u might be because i didn't plan to show the back that much in the final rendering. but since i've already addicted on doing this demon. i think i'll continue on upgrading on parts which u have mentioned.
btw, u are right....
SCREW THE DEADLINE~!

ok.... hope i can make most of the things happens tonight. i won't sleep for the next 20 hours. so that i can finish it in order to leave me some time for rigging it.

I like the hands! But I think there are too many sharp seams especially in the upper body part. I'd sften them out a bit ...
l_farley13_l
04-03-2002, 06:22 AM
The hands are just great - you have to highlight them in the final render :D :D !Only crit right now would be to do somthing radical with the clavical's shape as itis it looks like a limp human one - and we wouldn't want that ;) the feet are getting much better too ! Maybe some veins on the neck too ?
see you,

Am I right in thinking that to create the veins, you just split-polygon up the line of the vein, then extruded the new faces?
How about the wrinkles? Just a mess of split polygons, then just raise and lower various edges along the wrinkles?

hey this one is awsome!
like it allot, great details.
Would be cool to see it textured, even if it's not for the challange.
Got a question how you render that, you said something about "dome light", what does that mean? And how to set up that kind of light. (Yes, I'm new to Maya :) )
well, for the veins treatment. yeah, i cut the lines that i need 1st. usually i cut abit longer than i basically need to avoid unwanted wrinkle. and i've try to lower the edge at the start and the end of the vein to let the vain dip in to the flesh.
that simple.
well..... as for domelights. u can try the script like, GI-Joe or PreRenderPyramid. get it from highend3d.com
Maya is great for alot of thing. don't quit so soon because alot of ppl might find that it's renderer is abit crapy. but i personally think that it's not that bad. other than this, it rocks~!

WoW KFC! Simply amazing finish there!
oh~! great~ i've found a good hoster for my old stuff now.
special thanks Chucky.
and thanks to sketchguy too. u were with me from the beginning of this thread.
Check my progress on The Making Of The Emperor (http://www.wd2.org/kfc/page_01.htm)
here is a little update about the info of the devil which i've modeled. i've made a mistake, the dark emperor isn't named "ChaoChao". instead, it's name is "Qin Shihuangdi". he's the emperor in qing dynasty who's ordered to build the ancient great wall of China. i couldn't find his english name in the 1st place so i simply replaced it as chaochao (emperor in romace of 3 kingdom). but anyway, i hope "Qin Shihuangdi" could be a better replacement for it's name than the 1st one.
well, he was a very cruel emperor. and he always kills on his own will. as most of the chinese remembers. he's such a devil. that's why he looks like a devil in this design.
Hope all of u will like this.
