Hey everybody! I've gotten tired from looking at this image for too long, so I need your help.

Crits, anyone?

i think, the image could do with a little light from the right and the back to give your fruits more 'outlines'

i like the texture on the apples, but think, all your fruits are a bit to polished.
what kind of fruit is the yellow fruit? i really don't recognize it..

you can see, that you used one texture for all the apples as you can see the little bump on two of them. maybe rotate on of them?

it's a nice start. keep going!

Nice start, but I have to agree with ComsicBear, more intresting light and less reflection on the apple..

The scene it self lack the "umf" that makes a great picture, maybe adding some waterdrops to the fruits would help that?

EDIT: Just noticed that the yellow fruits (what is that? a cross-breed of a pear and lemon? :P) bump is a tad strong.. Anyhows, keep up the good work

Cheers

I think it's a nice image, but agree with the other posts above concerning the lighting and some of the textures. Did you download the fruit scene from the Treff advent calendar? There are some *amazing* SLA fruit textures that come with it. *Amazing*.

http://www.cosmicbear.de/icons/blushed.gif sorry about that. the wood-thing on the end (don't know the correct word) confused me a bit...

with the lemons, i think, you should cut down on the size of the bump a bit...

and how about a banana or a pinapple to have another shape in the bowl? or bugs crawling all over the fruits or something like this... or a newspaper next to the bowl with an article that fruits are unhealthy and cause skinproblems.. :-D

Actually... no! I went and drew the basic texture (gradient and some deformities, the brown stripes) by hand with pencil crayons, scanned it in, replicated it horizontally, and added some blemmishes with photoshop.

Then the pear was just a modification of that texture...

Hi Mike,

I’d agree the rest of the comments above.

To set the right mood for the lighting, I would recommend looking here:
http://3drender.com/light/3point.html

Jeremy Birn’s book Digital Lighting and Rendering is a book that I just got and it should be a staple in anyone’s arsenal of rendering tools!

Best,

Paul

P.S. Adam, where are those SLA fruit tex;s available at?

you can find these shaders here fruit-shaders (http://www.c4d-forum.de/adventskalender/)

i'm not sure if the calender is still online and on which date they were presented... but behind each door where some usefull informations and tools and gimmicks...

sorry, adam, didn't mean to answer for you... ;)

THX all for your help... I have made a good number of changes, but it will be rendereing for a while yet... damn GI!!! *shakes fist at render times*

I thought the lighting was off too... and I believed that I had created a 4 point lighting setup (key, fill, back, top fill), and further investigation shows that I had deactivated the back, and top fill lights for the sake of a faster preview, but then forgot to reactivate them... oops! :hmm:

Will post an update later tonight (hopefully).

CHEERS!

Here is an update:

What is up with that gap in the shadow (most prominantly around the lemon)? I only get that when I multipass render... wierd

very much improved.

couple of thoughts....apples look goodie.
pear needs roughing up a little texture wise.

how about having ago at a bit of transulency on the leaf.

also the actual bowl is spoilt by the edges not being smoother so you can see the poly/cage at the edge...easily sorted...and just a though other than that rocks...well done.

Nice improvement. I think the leaf's too flat.
