View Full Version : Weight Issues - Maya 8.0
Krazier Designs 12-06-2006, 01:44 AM Hey all,
I'm in the middle of rigging a character for my Rigging class. I have my weights painted for my model, and I have started putting in Set Driven Keys for my fingers/toes for curling and such. However have doing so, my weights seem to not produce the same results as they used to when I move my joints.
So I went back in to tweak my weights to try to fix the issues I was having, but it seems to be making them worse.
Is there a way to fix weights without having to remove my Set Driven keys first?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Zebb.

zebb,
usually i do all my SKD's before i even bind, so i'm pretty sure that your problem isn't a SDK thing. As long as your SDK's are driving the joints the same way it did when you were moving the joints alone, then it should be the same. The only thing i can think of right now is the weights on your skin have some small stray influences that might be effecting things differently than before.
One thing to try is to select the vert's that are acting weird and check them out in the component editor. It's a really handy way of finding stray influences and eliminating them. If that doesn't work, you could always repaint the toe/fingers with a value of 1 and then reblend your weights after your SDK's are working.
I'm sorry i don't have a clear answer to fix your problem, but i'm pretty certain it's not the SDK's affecting the weights on your skin (not counting user error).
So basically in short- you can go ahead and fix your wieghts without having to remove your SDK's
I hope that helps

SDK's have nothing to do with the weighting process so there must be something else going on here. do you lock you bone weights when you are done weighting?

Thanks for the help, your responses are pretty much what everyone in class said as well. I guess I'll keep on plugging and see what happens.
I held weights appropriately as I was painting them, and after the fact, so what can you do.
Thanks again.
