Just create a new solid
Then goto effects tab; under that choose text
Make path text. Switch Line over from bezier to line

Go down to advanced; open that and animate the Visbile Characters slider and you will get the effect that you are looking for

Hope this helps

You can also use the Simple Text Effect, but he don't have all those controls and parameters as the Path Text, so is simplier to use, the procedure to create Simple Text is the same as the Path Text.
There are a lot of third party plugins like the Panopticum AnimaText, RichTyping and others just for creating text in AE.

See Ya!

www.panopticum.com , and can also check the www.toolfarm.com and look for the plugins buyers guide, wich is a list of almost all plugins avaliable for AE and their description.

See Ya!
