well, i tried making a smaller sized video (wmv) but my software is being dumb. but if you're willing to find out http://www.fragcentral.com/~super/3d/cuts.avi . it's 6mb's and uses divx 5.02 codec. i highly suggest going to 3dbuzz.com, signing up and downloading all four of their CD's (make sure you post and be a part of the community) if you have a broadband connection.

If I'm not mistaken and I understand what your asking, you would just use the cut button to make cuts along those two black lines then select the new polygons (which would be where the black lines are) and extrude/chamfer.
I knowtThis is a brief description and I can expand if you need me to.

I would use slice modifier if you want the cut all the way around the block.
Howdy !
i would select one edge on each side, use edgering, connect, then shrink to get only my new edges selected and then chamfer them out.

note that the "shrink" command may not work (it might jsut deselect everything), then select two of your new edges and use an edgeloop...
now i hope i got your question right, anyhow if what you'd want was to cut holes right there, this method is still good, you may either chamfer again to get more polys then delete some in the middle, or use a selectring and connect again...
hope this helps !

theres lots of ways to do it. the easiest would be the "slice plane", so in poly sub object mode select the polies you want cut. then hit the slice plane button, put it in position and hit slice. and there you go. also you could just select the outside polies and extrude. then move your vertexes.
