View Full Version : Toon_paint and Rendermapping
CGNOMADUK 12-05-2006, 05:52 PM Hi
I am just experimenting with using Rendermapping in xsi and i am wondering whether anybody has had any success rendermapping out the Toon_paint node? So far my rendermap tests do not resemble the toon_shader setup i have. I understand this is not possible with the toon lens shader as this is a camera shader. cheers.

Some things will work, some wont.
This is because some of the toon's effects are camera direction dependant, such as rimlights. Toon ink will not work because it is of course also direction dependant. You logically cant have a silouhette cover the entire surface of something.
Ambiance, diffuse, glossy and other camera independant features should work.

toon shaders are light -> camera dependent.
Rendermap feature is based on simulating a camera going around the object and transferring this data to file. You see now, why it wouldn't have worked. It is perfect for baking in the indirect light or Ambient occlusion to texture. It is also helpful in texture painting.
I hope I didn't messed up anything.

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering though how the virtual camera is created? Is it a seperate camera or does it use the existing camera in the scene?. As i was thinking that if you had one camera projecting the toonshader and another camera to generate the rendermap that might solve the problem ( Although i cant see where you can specify which camera to use in the RenderMap options? as it does only say virtual camera which I assume just means exactly that) Thanks again.
