i've applied shave to a head, when i render the hairs are floating over the HyperNurbs object...some render correctly, but some seem to be floating above the surface....the manual says that this should be taken care off automatically, but is there something i can adjust to compensate?

thnx

dunno any chance we can see the image....there are setting like gravity which could affect this....as well as kink and frizz....did you try using any of the styling tools?

yeah, i've been messing w/them but i don't yet understand the relationships they all have with one another...i'll post a pic tonight...what i'm after is a hairstyle similar to what's on page 58 of the manual, the Spiky Hair thing...any ideas?

while we're on the subject, where the heck is there a shave community? is this app not widely used? [just a rant - :hmm: ]

thnx...

ummm im bot to sure about c4d but i know that the integrated hair system in xsi (based off shave) sets up "patches" of hair that are based of point positions...also the hair does "not" snap to a derived surface...which means hair cannot be placed on cage and look good on subd model...you will get floating hair...much like you describe...try converting your derived surface into poly the reapply your hair

i was thinking about doing that, but then setting up morphs would be more difficult...3d, love it or hate, can't live w/o it....:hmm:

well morphs wouldnt be that bad...setup all morph with your cage then convert...you just have to leave hair as a final step in your animation process

You aren't by any chance using Chanlum or the translucent shader, are you? I've found that it does inerfere with Shave--creating an apparent separation between the head and hair. Otherwise I've never had this problem. Maybe you could post a couple screen shots--preferably a render and a wireframe?

I've reproduced this problem by placing a cube inside a Hypernurb, and growing hair on it. It can be seen that the hair obviously does not get smoothed out by the hypernurb, as it should. I emailed Maxon about this, including the scene file, and they agreed that it was a bug that would looked into.

bcbarnes - nice work, dude, thanx for posting.

thanks, guys for the feedback, at least now we know something is going on at Maxon's end...
