View Full Version : Building a Computer in Sweden
bin23 12-05-2006, 06:34 AM Hello all,
I am an animator and designer trying to build a computer in Sweden. After moving here from the US, I feel totally lost when it comes to buying hardware. My swedish is poor, but not horrible. However, I still can not find vendors other than dustin.se and a few hits from pricerunner that carry anything remotely interesting or affordable.
Sadly dell is starting to seem like a strong option; every thing seem so expensive. Help I feel like a real dummy.
:P Maybe I should move to the UK?

Hej
You could try komplett.se. Or why not order from the UK at komplett.co.uk, usually the prices are a bit lower there. There are tons of vendors in sweden but you won't find UK prices here because of higher taxes and (I suppose) less competetive market.

Thanks for the feed back Framed.
I've been to the komplett.se site, but will check again. Have you had luck with any prebuilt systems in Sweden?

Prisjakt is probably the best price guide:

Curious why you couldn't order from almost any online vendor (espesiallly any Euro-based ones) and just have it shipped to Sweden? Is it not that simple?

...sweden's cool...OPETH is from there :scream: ...just though I would throw that out there ;)
about the post...
... I've sold many things to people out of the country through ebay. They've gotten them fine, I always add insurance though. I can't imagine why this wouldn't apply to sweden:shrug:

Szos :
Thanks for the reply; favorites like newegg do not ship international and until this week the euro vendor research has been all up hill. Buying chipsets is less of a problem, because whether it's AMD or Intel the prices are about the same.
But for everyting else is a little different and I know so few of the european equivalent vendors.
martinrebas :
http://www.prisjakt.nu, looks super cool !! It is a lot easier to use than pricerunner. Thanks.

About the shipping to Sweden, sometimes it is ok and other times things get stuck at the local post with additional charges for customs, handling or something like that. Eventually I'll apply for a tax id and be able to write the (moms) tax off, but at the moment everything feels more than moderately expensive.
Enough complaining though it is nice here.
Hardware :
What cases are you using for your rigs? Looking into either a Silverstone or an Antec.
What watage would you suggest for PSU? (I'll post my whish list later so this question make sense)
Thanks again for all of your help

When it comes to the PSU... Do NOT buy some low-watt crap. Trust me on this one, a 500w and quality won't hurt. Not only does some PSU units add extra cooling to your computer, the expensier ones will be more stable and support good graphic cards. It's a bottleneck the day you want to add some extra things like more harddrives. ;)
I'd say 500w PSU in any case. :)

Power, Cooling, and Memory are the three most critical components of a stable machine, and also the three most overlooked.

GregHess and InAction : Thanks for both of your inputs. I've been using your threads as reference and it has really made it quite a bit easier.
(I haven't put the wish list together yet, still a little unsure about vendors and availability.Going to be using this box for 3D and video/sound mixing)
Ram
For years I've gone with Kingston and Rocky Mountain
PSU
Enermax 500w
Zalman Noiseless 460W
M board
(I'd like to be able to upgrade to quads later. Two processor socket boards are too expensive for me now.)
Asus P5W DH Deluxe - I975X
" P5B D WIFI - I965
Intel D975XBX2KR
Processor
Intel Core Duo E6600 2.4GHz
(I've gone back and forth between Intel and Amd and have settled with Intel)
Case
Antec P180
Silverstone tj09 (super expensive here)
Mostly, wanted to thank you guys.

A small update :
I have been looking around for graphics card suggestions and it sounds like the resounding consensus is that the EVGA 7900GTO is the best buy. The card seems hard to find; the alternatives at the hexus forums seem a little over geared for my needs. Is their another option that is as affordable?
Thanks again.
Have good weekends.
