Hi everyone :)

I've got a question I hope someone can help me with;

In MotionBuilder, I know, it is the easiest way to get a character working if it has all the right naming conventions. All you have to do then is drag and drop a character on it and choose the option you want (Biped or Quadraped). So far that is no problem for me.

Now I have a question. What if I have a figure that hasn't have the naming conventions because that is not entirely possible? This figure doesn't have a neck or a head but it does have four legs.
What do I have to do to get this characterized and working in MotionBuilder? I've been looking around on the net, but I can't really find something to help me with this.
Are there people who have information on this or have done this in MotionBuilder?

Thanks in advance for any answers :)

You need to create "dummy" joints that include the required BASE joints needed in motionbuilder. So, for example, if your character is some sort of creature with two legs but no arms, you need to still branch off some joints in Maya to give Motionbuilder enough to Characterize it. Same goes with a neck, you can include it even though it won't serve a purpose for your particular character. You don't need to skin them or anything and since they are not going to serve any function, you can leave them "unpinned" in the Control Rigg so they are just coming along for the ride.

It's one of the limitations of FBIK. They require certain heirarchies to be met. I miss the short-lived english version of ANIMANIUM, from Sega, which was a very promising FBIK software will no rules to it's FBIK rig. ;)

Thanks Rod :)

I found an answer pretty much like that on the net a couple of day's ago (after a long time of searching) - very glad that it was the right thing. I'm going to try it out very soon after some finishing touches on the model ;)

Thanks for the help - much appreciated :)

Where can I find that stuff?
I have had a similar problem with a dragon (4 legs, 1 head, two wings)

Also, what if I have more than 4 legs (like 3 arms)

Thanks Rod :)
