View Full Version : Fantasy Gun
Peoples 02-13-2003, 03:05 PM Pulled this one today from my mac - since I don't have R8 - I played around with supernurbs and the weights. But I'm getting those strange artifacts, tried smoothing tag w/ and w/o angle limit - whats the difference anyway? And then I got rid of the worst artifacts by increasing the shadow map size... - can someone explain me why is that? But as I said - still some weird black lining appear...
But I'm pretty satisfied with the modeling - still have to tweak some details and then get some decent textures..
Feedback??

Looks cool, Peoples!
Not to state the obvious, but you get artifacts with low-rez shadow maps because there's not enough pixels. :surprised As the angle of the shadow becomes more oblique, the map becomes more spread out and the higher you need to set the resolution.
Regarding the smoothing/Phong tag, the angle limit defines the maximum surface normal angle that will be smoothed. For example, if you had a cube and unchecked the angle limit box Cinema would try to smooth out the the edges. If you had the box checked and the angle at something less than 90 degrees the tag would have no effect. Cinema has an--IMO--serious limitation with its Phong smoothing that I recently posted about on Postforum: http://www.postforum.com/forums/read.php?f=6&i=70130&t=70130

I hope they fix that damned problem and rewrite the app in the modeling section adding ngons and all those features ALL the packages have and we still lack. :thumbsdow

Here you go! I have to admit that it was Fausto's guns that gave me the kick for this.. The wire is without the supernurbs applied..

Very cool, very cool indeed.. Really like the textures (allthou the "worn" on some part of it seems to be a pattern).
I get the impression that the handle is either too thick or too short, maybe its the camera angel?
Cheers
