View Full Version : Is this possible with maya?
pensart 02-13-2003, 01:06 PM Hi there,
I'm still wandering to teach maya but have this question, is this possible with maya ( without adding extra polygons...

unfortunately not
damn dude, that is pretty cool. I know you can work on a meshsmoothed surface, with using the CPS toolset. And a lot of the steps were just extruding..etc. The hole tool is there, but it's not a one step process like in the vid. Was that step realtime, or was that time-lapsed?

that was cool. So there's no way to do that edge weighting stuff in maya? That's something that looks real helpful

how about creases in maya's subdivision surfaces ?
You can create full creases and partial creases at edges and vertices, and you can remove them.
A full crease is a hard or sharp edge created at the selected edges, or a sharp point created at the selected vertex. The surface moves very close or exactly to the edge or vertex to form the crease.
A partial crease moves the surface closer to the selected edges or vertices without ever reaching them. Partial creasing is useful when you want an edge effect, but do not want it to be hard, for example, at the edge of a character's lips.
No, not yet for polys. Let's hope AW does something like this in the next version.
For now you just have to extrude 2 or more times at the same edge, to get hard ones.
Don't know about subdivs.

i guess hypernurbs is cinema4d's brand name for subdivision surfaces
so the same feature is available in both products

neil and others:
well it's not a simple step (lol)... u have to choose "weight nurbs" from the menu and when u select an edge for example, press shift and lmb and drag u are changing the weighti...
but i must say it's as easy as it is shown in the movie... once u got familiar with the tool... just check out the demo.

I wasnt able to watch the movie, but from the post, i gathered that you could use the surface editing tool, under the edit nurbs menu.
